Christopher Nkunku, a standout for Leipzig, won the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season award for 2021–2022, despite ongoing rumors of a transfer to the Premier League.

Nkunku received the end-of-season honor after winning the German top flight’s Player of the Month title a record four times in a single season (in October, February, March, and April).

Only former Bayern Munich talisman, Robert Lewandowski had more direct goal involvements last season (38) than the Frenchman, who scored 20 goals and dished out 13 assists in 34 league games, ahead of Robert Lewandowski, Erling Haaland, and Patrik Schick.

Only Karim Benzema (59), Kylian Mbappe (57), and Lewandowski (56) were involved in more goals than the Leipzig forward (50) in Europe’s top five divisions overall.

Leipzig’s goal-scoring prowess and creative ability enabled them finish fourth in the Bundesliga and led them to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals, where they lost to Rangers.
