Chelsea are planning a first major summer overhaul under Todd Boehly with eleven players to be axed at the end of the season.
Todd Boehly has spent a whooping £566m on new signings as he prepares for a new era built around an array of young and promising talents.
Todd Boehly’s raid of the transfer market has left the Blues’ with an over-bloated squad list which is set to be trimmed down with some players already falling out of favor under Graham Potter.
According to the Athletic, Chelsea are intent on their first major overhaul under Todd Boehly. The Blues want to reduce their playing staff at the end of the season.
According to reports, the planned reshuffling and clear-out will start with six Chelsea players who will be running out of contract at the end of the season.
Some of the players earmarked are plying trade with other clubs on loan spells after losing their berth with the London club and their contracts will not be renewed at the end of the season when they expire.
Other players that will reportedly be affected by the overhaul will not run out of contract this season but next season. However, the Blues are considering accepting offers for such players instead of losing them on free transfer.
Top on the list of players that are set to leave the club is Bakayoko. For the last four seasons, Bakayoko has failed to break into Chelsea lineup and has spent the last four years of his Chelsea career on loan
Also on the list are the Blues’ two backup goalkeepers, Marcus Bertinelli, and Nathan Baxter, who have not made an appearance for the club and are expected to leave in the summer.
Ethan Amadu, who is currently on a loan spell with Serie A club Spezia is also expected to leave the club.
Apart from the peripheral names in the Chelsea squad, other big-name players that have played under Graham Potter are also set to be axed from the squad.
Cesar Azpilicueta, who has been linked to a move to Spain, is also on the list, including Christian Pulisic and Loftus-Cheek.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also set to leave the squad. Aubameyang lost his starting berth under Graham Potter and has been axed off the Blues’ Champions League squad.
Mason Mount is another big name that may likely join the mass exodus at the end of the season. His contract will expire at the end of next season but the club will opt to cash in on the player instead of allowing him leave as a free agent.
Chelsea were keen on renewing Mason Mount’s contract but his exit is looming after negotiations between the two parties suffered setback due to his demand for increased wage.
If current negotiations on contract renewal fails, N’Golo Kante may also be shown the exit door despite returning from injury.
