According to transfer specialist, Fabrizio Romano, English Premier League giants Chelsea have officially completed the signing of Arsenal wonder kid Omari Hutchinson this summer and will officially announce his arrival soon.

The 18-year-old will join Chelsea’s U23 team but he’s regarded as a signing for the future which could mean that he’ll likely join the senior team in the coming season.

Omari Hutchinson joined Arsenal at the age of 12 and signed a contract with the senior team in November 2020 but refused to renew it before it expired this summer.

The U23 attacking midfielder failed to make a senior debut for the Gunners even though he joined them in 2020. He only appeared once on the first teams substitution line up during Arsenal’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest earlier this year.

The new development means that he spent two years with the North London club without playing in the senior team – which is why he failed to renew his contract and decided to join their arch-rivals, Chelsea.

Although he’s originally from Jamaica, the young star plays for the England national team and has featured for England’s U17 and U19 teams.

He was called up by the Jamaican senior team and he accepted the honor in May 2022. Omari Hutchinson played his first game for his country of origin after one month but the friendly game ended in a defeat against Catalonia.

The game was not a full international fixture which means that he can still go back to England because he hasn’t fully registered as a player for the Jamaican senior team.

The Jamaican midfielder played a total of 22 games for the Arsenal U23 team last season, scoring eight goals and assisting seven times.

His performance attracted the attention of other clubs but he decided to move to the West side of London to continue with his development.

Omari Hutchinson impressed the Chelsea board when he played against them last season as he scored two beautiful goals in the game.

His first goal against them was a nice sublime curling effort in the EFL Trophy, and he bagged another one through a brilliant solo run that left the Chelsea U23 defenders behind him.

Other U23 players are expected to leave Arsenal this summer. Initially, Omari Hutchinson was expected to leave on a loan deal to Reading but decided to switch to Chelsea on a permanent deal.

As of the time of publishing this report, the contract details are yet to be made official but the Blues will announce it after finalizing Zak Sturge’s deal.

New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has gotten both the senior team and U23 team busy in the current summer transfer window. The U23 team is looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next season to avoid a repetition of what happened last season, where they had to avoid relegation on the final day of the 2021/22 season.
