After managing to finish in the fourth spot in the Premier League table last season and leaking in goals earlier this season, Chelsea has made some improvement and they look to be in the right direction under the guidance of Frank Lampard.

Frank Lampard could be said to be a lucky coach as Chelsea is not a club known for giving their managers much time to get things right. But for him to guide a team that is battling with a transfer embargo to Champions League place using the club’s reserve players, the former England midfielder deserves credit.

He came under fire earlier this season after Chelsea started conceding needless goals. Lampard quickly identified the problem and brought in Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, and Edouard Mendy.

Lampard appeared to have found the solution at Chelsea

After losing to Liverpool earlier in the season at home, pressure started mounting on Lampard as fans expect him to prove why he spent over 200m pounds during the transfer window,.

But that has been answered now as Chelsea looked to be a stable team at the back and they appeared dangerous going forward with Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham leading the charge.

In a nutshell, for Lampard to be able to keep Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son at bay during the weekend clash, shows a lot of development that has gone into the team in his 17 months in charge.

Although they missed the chance to go to the summit of the log due to a fantastic save from Hugo Lloris, Chelsea deserves the commendation they are getting at the moment.

Frank Lampard could last longer than other managers at Chelsea

It could be noted that Chelsea occupied the second spot for the first time at least for one day under Lampard after their 2-0 win over Newcastle last two weeks.

But the draw against Spurs left them in third after Liverpool were pegged to a 1-1 draw at Brighton. This is indeed an encouraging sign for Lampard. He has also spent the most time in the top four since taking over the reins at Stamford Bridge. Apart from delays to last season due to the coronavirus pandemic, his side has spent 204 days out of a possible 298 in the top four
    In his first season.

The defense had been their major issues as they seemed fluid going forward. But they have looked far more solid for a few weeks now and it was the same again this time.

For Chelsea to be able to stop Spurs on the counter-attack, it shows that a lot of works has been done in the background.

Scoring is not expected to be Lampard’s problem at Chelsea. It is clear that the team is heading in the right direction.

Chelsea’s stat shows that they have now only lost once – to Liverpool – in 16 games in all competitions in 2020-21 and are already through to the last 16 of the Champions League.

They are are just two points behind Spurs on the Premier League table and are joint-highest scorers. Things are coming together nicely for them, and Lampard deserves a lot of credit for that.

Despite being a rookie manager who is still learning about the job, Lampard has been very impressive in everything he has done so far.

From the look of things, he has the support of the owner, Roman Abramovich, and the fans are beginning to believe in him. With patience, he could bring success to the Stamdford Bridge.
