Chelsea are in talks to sign Neymar this summer as the Brazil winger calls for PSG exit and is determined to leave the club this summer.
According to L’Equipe, Neymar has asked to leave PSG this summer with Barcelona ready to sign him back but Chelsea are also keenly in the race to sign the 30-year-old.
The report adds PSG are open to Neymar’s exit notwithstanding the new four-year deal they agreed with the player in 2021.
Neymar has two years remaining in his contract but has reportedly told the club he is ready to leave this summer.
Neymar’s PSG exit will bring to an end the All-Star PSG project championed by the club’s President Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona for a record £198m transfer fee from Barcelona in 2017. He was the first player to arrive the club in Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s All-Star PSG project.
After the arrival of Neymar, PSG signed Kylian Mbappe from Monaco in 2018, before adding Lionel Messi to the two deadly attacking duo in 2021.
Lionel Messi has left the club to Inter Miami on free transfer and is the first player to leave the menacing PSG attacking trio.
Kylian Mbappe is currently locked in a contract standoff with the club and is ready to leave the club next summer if not this summer.
Neymar will be the last name in the PSG trio to leave the club this summer, marking the end of an ambitious but failed project by Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
Neymar’s destination problem
PSG are reportedly ready to let Neymar leave this summer but L’Equipe reports the winger will face a destination problem. With two years remaining on his PSG contract, it is understood PSG will not peck down their asking price for the player.
Sources close to the club have revealed the French giants will slam a price tag ranging from £150m to £200m for Neymar with only few clubs likely to afford the player.
Meanwhile, the Brazil international has been linked to top Premier League clubs of recent with Manchester United and Chelsea in the picture.
Chelsea in talks to sign Neymar
Chelsea are currently in talks to sign Neymar Jr this summer from PSG, according to reports.
According to RMC, Chelsea have met with Neymar’s camp and are trying to push through a deal for the player.
Todd Boehly, who is said to be a big fan of the Brazilian, is ready to bid for the player despite spearheading a mass overhaul at Chelsea to restructure the club’s spending on wage bill.
Neymar’s Chelsea move could see the player reunite with his former manager at PSG Mauricio Pochettino.
Barcelona divided over Neymar return
According to L’Equipe, Barcelona are currently divided on Neymar’s return to Camp Nou.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta is reportedly insisting on bringing back Neymar while Barcelona manager, Xavi Hernandez, is against the move.
Joan Laporta believes the club will benefit commercially from Neymar’s return although he is vying for a loan deal with PSG while Xavi Hernandez sees the move as a distortion to his squad plan.
With Chelsea now fully in the race to sign Neymar, Barcelona are more likely to chicken out. However, Neymar’s decision is expected to be a deal-breaker, determining his next destination.
