Chelsea’s statement on Cesar Azpilicueta’s state

In a statement released on Tuesday, Chelsea stated: “The club’s medical team are closely monitoring Cesar’s condition, adhering to the important concussion protocols in place to ensure his safety.

“Cesar observed training today, before he starts working towards returning to the pitch.”

A day after he sustained the injury, the full-back posted a tweet which read: “My family and I would like to thank everyone who has been looking after me since yesterday’s incident.

“From the Chelsea FC medical team, to team-mates and opponents, to St Mary’s and Cleveland Hospital and all staff members and doctors: a massive thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now, time to recover and I will see you soon on the pitch!”

A swashbuckling James Ward-Prowse’s free-kick gave the day to the Saints as they defeated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

That loss to Southampton meant that Chelsea have now lost five games so far in 2023.

They are also eleven (11) massive points adrift the Premier League top four with fifteen (15) games left till the end of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Chelsea travel to North London to face Tottenham Hotspur at the 1 billion pound turf of the Lilywhites.

The horrendous season Chelsea are having

Graham Potter’s chelsea have picked up just one win in the Premier League in 2023 and they face a daunting task ahead as a team who have their sights fixated on finishing in a Champions League spot.

Chelsea are out of the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and they have an herculean task against German side Borussia Dortmund next month.

They lost in the first leg to Borrusia Dortmund via a “fufu” led brilliance from Karim Adeyemi who handed the Black and Yellows a 1-0 victory against the Blues.

Cesar Azpilicueta is expected to return early March in 2023 due to the concussion injury he picked up on the 18th of February.

He has made nineteen appearances for Chelsea in the 2022/23 Premier League season having no goal and making no assist so far.

The 33-year-old was conveyed to the St Mary’s Hospital in West London after receiving treatment during a lengthy stoppage in play on Saturday.

Chelsea’s last loss was their third in their last six (6) home league matches, winning twice and drawing once. Before now, they had lost just three (3) of their previous twenty-five (25) top-flight battles at their home turf, winning thirteen (13) and sharing the spoils on nine (9) occasions.

Graham Potter has faced intense criticism due to how Chelsea have fared since he was appointed as manager by Todd Boehly after the ouster of Thomas Tuchel. If things continue this way, he might be sacked before easter.
