It appears Napoli captain, Lorenzo Insigne is a doubt for Saturday’s Champions League clash against Barcelona after scans revealed a tendon injury in his left thigh.
The winger was substituted during the team’s 3-1 win over Lazio last weekend. Due to the adductor injury picked, the Italy international and will be assessed daily until the big game in the Champions League.
After scoring from the penalty spot in the 54th minute at the San Paolo, he was replaced by Eljif Elmas after 84 minutes.
“Lorenzo Insigne, injured in the final minutes against Lazio on Saturday, underwent instrumental examinations today, which highlighted an injury to the left long adductor tendon, with bone edema.
“His condition will be assessed day by day,” he club wrote in a statement.
Napoli might have to play Barcelona without their captain
As daily monitoring of his situation continues, Insigne could miss the return leg of the clash after participating in the first leg that ended in a 1-1 draw in Naples in March.
Insigne, who scored 12 goals and created eight assists in all competitions this season is a key player for Gennaro Gattuso’s side.
In the first leg, Dries Merten scored the opener for the hosts, but Barca equalized through Antoine Griezmann to restore parity for the LaLiga side.
