Manchester United’s new signing Casemiro has delivered a bold statement after sealing his move to Old Trafford from Real Madrid this summer. He was unveiled as the club’s new signing on Monday, August 22, before Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool.
Days before the Premier League clash between Liverpool and United, the Red Devils had confirmed that an agreement had been reached with Real Madrid for the £60 million transfer of the five-time Champions League winner Casemiro who expressed his delight at signing for “the biggest club in England”
The 30-year-old Brazilian midfielder, who will earn a reported £350,000-a-week at Old Trafford, opened up about his “exciting” move on Monday during an emotional press conference at Bernabeu.
The Brazilian said: “This change is my big challenge now, I spoke to my wife just three days ago and my wife said I look like an 18-year-old kid who is super excited about his new project”.
The Brazilian also revealed how disappointed he was to have missed out on making his debut for United against Liverpool on Monday night.
“I do feel so excited about playing in the Premier League. If I could, I would play today (August 22) for United against Liverpool. I’m really excited, it’s a club with great history”.
However, Manchester United fans were not as happy as they were last night as Erik ten Hag secured his first win as United manager after goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford on Monday Night Premier League clash, August 22,2022.
The Red Devils had lost both of their first two outings, losing 2-1 to Brighton at Old Trafford before being thrashed 4-0 by Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Monday’s night victory against Liverpool was more like a begining of a pay back for the 4-0 and 5-0 defeat they suffered from the Jurgen Klopp’s side last season.
Moreover, United still need to brazen up their midfield if they desire to be above board this season. However, with the arrival of Casemiro, this is likely to be achieved as the defensive midfielder shared his insight as to what Manchester United fans should expect from him.
“At Manchester United, first of all, what I want is to transmit the way I feel about the club, my respect,” he said. “Everything I did here [at Real Madrid], I want to do there too. I want to show my fighting spirit, capacity to work hard, and professional attitude. I want to work hard every day to show how serious I am about them. I want to win the league there, I know it is an exciting league.”
Casemiro is renowned for being one of the best defensive midfielders in the world and will hugely improve the current United side.
He has made 336 appearances during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, scoring 31 goals and contributing 29 assists for Real Madrid since he joined from Brazilian side Sao Paulo in 2013.
The five-time UEFA Champions League winner is eager to reunite with his former Real Madrid teammates Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo at United. The trio had huge success together, winning four UEFA Champions League titles for Madrid.
