Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and Bayer Leverkusen are all incredibly well-equipped to steal the Meisterschale away from Munich, therefore Julian Nagelsmann’s men face their toughest opposition in recent history of the Bundesliga campaign.

Bayern’s decade-long dominance of domestic football is a feat never before seen in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

Yet, some Bundesliga supporters don’t know of any other champions. By finishing eight points ahead of Dortmund in the previous campaign, Julian Nagelsmann led them to their tenth consecutive victory. They have also won the Supercup which shows their dominance.

For more than a decade, BVB has been their main competitor. Since entering the Bundesliga in 2016, Leipzig too has become a major headache for Bayern Munich, and Leverkusen has a track record of coming agonizingly close to winning it all.  These clubs are no longer content to watch as the champs win another championship.

The head of the DFL’s supervisory board and CEO of Dortmund, Hans-Joachim Watzke recently spoke to Bild with enthusiasm about the upcoming season.

He said: “What I can promise is that certain teams will do everything for an entertaining title competition. This also applies to Borussia Dortmund. Leverkusen and Leipzig are also included.

The largest transfer window for Dortmund.

The significant transfers made by Borussia Dortmund during the summer transfer window provided evidence for Watzke’s assertion.

With the addition of German internationals Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck in central defense, Karim Adeyemi and Sebastien Haller up front, and Turkey international Salih in midfield, Dortmund looks like a team that is ready to compete.

“I purposely signed a long-term deal because I’m certain we’ll be an exciting squad that will also be capable of contending for and winning titles in the medium future. With the supporters,” Adeyemi said after he signed a five-year contract at Signal Iduna Park.

Even though Leverkusen won’t publicly discuss a title push, they do have a team that might have an amazing season, like Wirtz, leading scorer Patrik Schick has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Bay Arena through 2027.

The Czech striker led Erling Haaland and was the second-highest scorer in the Bundesliga after Robert Lewandowski with 24 goals last season.

Domenico Tedesco in Leipzig experienced the same thing following his mid-season arrival at the Red Bull Arena.

And like Leverkusen, they have kept and extended the services of Christopher Nkunku, their crucial player.

The international player from France signed a new contract that runs until 2026 as a result of his 20 goals and 13 assists, which helped him win the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season award.

Also, the champions, Bayern Munich, have  bolstered their team with the addition of Sadio Mane from Liverpool. They have also signed Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus, Ryan Gravenberch, and Noussair Mazraoui from Ajax, as well as Mathys Tel, a young player from Rennes, to bring more depth and quality to their lineup.

Bayern is under pressure, but they thrive in that environment.

They anticipate competition from a variety of sides this season, and they are aware that Dortmund are set to give them a run for their money.

Leverkusen, Leipzig, or possibly a surprise contender (like Wolfsburg in 2008–09) would be waiting to seize the opportunity if Bayern make a mistake.
