Bruno Fernandes has admitted that there possibly won’t be another Cristiano Ronaldo when the former Real Madrid player retires from professional football.
The 38-year-old continues to show his impact on the field as he has recently guided Portugal to secure a spot at the upcoming Euro 2024.
The former Manchester United frontman bagged two goals for his national side on Friday, 13th of October as they thrashed Slovakia 3-2.
The former Juventus striker took his outstanding international tally to 127 goals in 203 appearances following another brace he scored in a 5-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday, 16th of October.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner doesn’t let his age stop him from doing what he knows how to best while he continues to be a crucial part of club and country.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s second spell at Old Trafford ended in an unceremonious and inglorious exit but former United teammate and compatriot, Bruno Fernandes, has claimed that the 38-year-old still has more to offer.
Speaking to reporters during one of Portugal’s international games, Bruno Fernandes said; “Do I have the notion that I’m playing alongside a history maker? No, I don’t have a notion, I have the certainty! We’re all aware of it”.
The Manchester United captain declared that they (Portugal’s national team) understand the positive impact Ronaldo has on the future of numerous Portuguese players, the chances he (Ronaldo) has created for future generations, and the way other countries started to look at Portugal.
Fernandes said; “They already had started looking at us with more respect, but everything that Ronaldo achieved meant our name was more feared, and obviously we are grateful to have lived in this era because it was a privilege for us to watch Cristiano play and at the same time I had the chance to play alongside him”.
The Portuguese all-time leading goal scorer continues to motivate his international teammates and millions of football supporters across the globe.
Nevertheless, he’s 38 years of age but is demonstrating no evidence of slowing down and is predicted to play on until he is 40.
Cristiano Ronaldo has recently informed his club side Al Nassr that he’d love to sign a new contract with the Middle East outfit when the current one expires.
This move will keep the 2016 Euro winner in the game until 2027 which will enable him to participate in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Bruno Fernandes makes honest thoughts on Cristiano Ronaldo
Speaking on whether there’s going to be another Ronaldo, Fernandes said; “I hope another Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo appears but I think it’s unlikely and it’s up to us, all the Portuguese, to enjoy him and enjoy what he can still give us, regardless of the fact they often say, ah, he’s not what he used to be”.
He added; “All players as the years go by have to adapt, have to be different, but Cristiano, although different and always adapting, continues to do that which he does best – which is score goals”.
Cristiano Ronaldo, the five-time UEFA Champions League winner becomes the first footballer in men’s international football history to pass 200 appearances helping Portugal to the Euro 2024 qualification.
