Chelsea are planning on leaving Stamford Bridge to develop its own stadium.

Stamford Bridge is infamous for its open terracing and bench seats. There have been a call for a change in the stadium’s status due to its success over the years.

Chelsea had 100,000 seats in previous years. Currently, it has a capacity of 40,000, which is smaller than that of Arsenal, Tottenham, and West Ham.

Todd Boehly is concerned about the fact that the rival stadiums are growing bigger. Tottenham Stadium had been picked for Euro 2028 because of its 61,000 capacity.

Emirates Stadium hosts a big event, and West Ham Stadium may be used for baseball matches.

Liverpool and Aston Villa are considering expansion. The home of the Treble winner, Manchester City, had been redone.

The former CEO of the club, Ken Bates, back in 1980, brought about the idea.

Politics have limited the former owners from considering the expansion of the stadium over the years.

Roman Abrahamovic, who was close to making sure that Chelsea football club had a world-class stadium that was going to look similar to that of Santiago Bernabeu was stopped due to the Russia and Ukraine war.

Even the current owner of the club, Todd Boehly, cannot make up his mind about what to do about the stadium currently.

There is also a debate among the board of directors about moving the pitch down to Earls Court as much as expanding the stadium to a 65,000 capacity.

The plans have been studied with equal consideration. That doesn’t mean that the club is planning on demolishing Stamford Bridge before the end of the season.

Any plan to build a new stadium requires permission from Chelsea Pitch owners. The club is engaging in a constructive conversation with them.

They are also mindful of the problem of building the existing stadium.

Boehly had created a squad capable of winning titles with a £1 billion investment in the squad, but building a world-class stadium is a slow process.

Chelsea purchased 1.2 acres of land close to Stamford Bridge.

In the process of making Chelsea one of the biggest stadiums in Europe, the club purchased 1.2 acres of land close to Stamford Bridge from the Stoll Foundation.

The land Chelsea purchased included historic Sir Oswald Stoll Mansions, where around 100 military veterans and war widows live.

The Veteran Army are throwing everything possible in making sure the land doesn’t get sold.

However, their attempt had been proven unsuccessful after the Stoll Foundation confirmed the sale on October 18, 2023.

The Stoll Foundation release a statement saying “

“The Board of Trustees for Stoll, the leading provider of supported housing for veterans, has made a final decision, following resident consultation, to sell the majority of its Sir Oswald Stoll Mansions site in Fulham to the Chelsea FC ownership group.”

“The sale is subject to contract with completion expected in early 2024.

“The Board of Trustees received 13 bids which were reviewed over a period of six months.”

“Today’s announcement follows a nine week consultation with residents, the responses to which were taken into account by the Board, along with other considerations, before making its final decision.”
