Manchester United attacking midfielder, Bruno Fernandes has agreed that he and his teammates don’t deserve to wear the club’s jersey after lowly rated Brighton defeated them 4-0 at Falmer Stadium.

On Saturday, May 7, 2022, Manchester United visited the Falmer Stadium to play their 37th Premier League game of the season. Based on the ratings and the kind of players at

Manchester United was expected to defeat Brighton to keep their hope of finishing in the top four alive until at least the last game of the season. Unfortunately for interim coach Ralf Rangnick and his team, Brighton gave United one of their heaviest defeats in the club’s history. Brighton stunned Manchester United 4-0.

The humiliating defeat left Manchester United on the 6th spot with 58 points in 37 games, four points away from 5th placed Tottenham which have two games in hand, and five points away from 4th placed Arsenal which have three games in hand.

Hence, the Manchester United’s 4-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton means that United is mathematically out of the race for a top-four finish. Even if Arsenal lose all their remaining four league games, United can’t finish the season above them.

Note that Manchester United’s 2021-2022 season has been so terrible that the club recorded 11 defeats, 10 draws, and just 16 wins. They have managed to gather just 58 points in 37 games which means that they now have the possibility of finishing the season with 61 points if they defeat Crystal Palace in their last league game of the season on May 22.

Even as that, the 2021-2022 season will end as Manchester United’s worst Premier League season in the history of the club. Their lowest points tally in the Premier League was 64. Unfortunately, this season’s points tally has eclipsed that successfully.

During the Premier League game between Manchester United and Brighton, United’s fans were so frustrated that they began to chant that the club’s players were not fit to wear Manchester United’s jersey.

The chant “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” echoes at Brighton’s stadium as Manchester United could not respond to the four goals Brighton scored against them.

After the Premier League game, Bruno Fernandes who played 35 of the 37 Premier League games United played this season was asked to react to the chant. The 27-year-old Portuguese attacking midfielder who managed to score 10 Premier League goals and provided 6 assists in the league this season admitted that he and his teammates don’t deserve to wear Manchester United’s jerseys based on their performance against Brighton.

“What we did, and by myself, was not enough to be in a Manchester United shirt. I accept that”, Bruno Fernandes told Sky Sports after the 4-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton on Saturday.

As for the club’s interim coach, Ralf Rangnick, the 4-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton on Saturday is Manchester United’s worst performance under his watch.

“Yes, it was from the first to the last minute”, Rangnick who will hand over to coach Erik ten Hag at the end of the 2021-2022 season told Sky Sports.

“We were second best. We can only apologize to the supporters. It was a terrible performance and a humiliating defeat.

“We gave them too much time, too much space. We couldn’t get into a position to stop them from playing through our lines. The game plan was completely different. We told the players to be as compact as possible and then to release pressure on them. We couldn’t stop them.

“I don’t think the players ignored the game plan but they weren’t able to stop them. We gave them too much space and time. When you give technically good players this space, this is what can happen.

“In the second half we took the risk to bring on Cavani to play as a second striker, but in hindsight, it was too much of a risk to play in a 4-4-2 against them but we had to change the energy. Today we were second best.

“As a team, we didn’t defend at all. We couldn’t stop them.”
