The American Express (Amex) Stadium, the home ground of Brighton and Hove Albion, has become one of the English Premier League venues with leaking roofs.
The Amex Stadium joins Manchester United’s Old Trafford as two of the Premier League stadiums with dripping roofs.
This became evident during Brighton’s league clash against Manchester United on August 24, 2025.
On a rainy afternoon on the south coast of England, the Seagulls’ home ground (Amex Stadium) was seen gushing water from its penetrable roof.
Fans appeared to be scampering for cover across spells in the affair, as it rained cats and dogs, a usual sight during the summer in England.
Which Other Premier League Stadium Has A Leaky Roof?
During the 2023/24 season, Manchester United’s Old Trafford was also seen dripping water, with the stadium being flooded due to heavy downpours.
It was visible during the game between Erik ten Hag’s side and Arsenal last term, with the latter coming out victorious (1-0) in the encounter.
The Red Devils apparently were aware their stadium was prone to sporadic leaks but they failed to rectify the issue, leading to fans frantically making efforts to get cover in order not to be soaked in water.
Manchester United became subject to intense public scrutiny and mockery after videos surfaced online showing water gushing through the leaky roofs of their revered home ground, with locations across the stadium subsequently being flooded.
There are ongoing talks over the revamping of the iconic stadium, with discussions holding on the possibility of building a new arena or refurbishing their current Old Trafford Coliseum.
Joao Pedro’s Last Minute Winner Hands Brighton Victory Over Manchester United
Meanwhile, despite their familiarity with playing in a leaky stadium, Manchester United were beaten 2-1 by Fabian Hürzeler’s Brighton.
The ghost from the past appears to still be hunting the Red Devils, as a late goal from Joao Pedro condemned Erik ten Hag’s side to their first defeat of the campaign.
The Seagulls had initially gone ahead in the 32nd minute through Manchester United star Danny Welbeck before Amad Diallo brought the away side back on level terms.
Joshua Zirkzee thought he had won it late on for the Red Devils, following an intricate attacking move, however, his goal was chalked off for offside.
Alejandro Garnacho had been on the end of an inviting ball delivered by Diallo as he directed the ball toward the back of the net.
However, it struck Dutch attacker Zirkzee on its way in, leading to the goal being unfortunately disallowed.
Right at the death of the encounter, Pedro headed home for Brighton, meeting a cross from Ivorian forward Simon Adingra.
That broke the hearts of Manchester United supporters across the globe, as their side had suffered their first defeat of the league campaign.
Fabian Hürzeler’s Reign As Brighton Boss
Moreover, Brighton have started the season on an impressive note, with boss Hürzeler marshaling the side to 2 victories from 2 matches thus far.
There were worries over whether Fabian Hürzeler would be able to handle the Seagulls well after replacing Roberto De Zerbi, who was dismissed at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Thus far, the German tactician is proving his doubters wrong, as his team appear to be interpreting his instructions on the pitch of play.
Brighton return to league action on August 31, 2024, with an home game against last season runner-up Arsenal.
Before they trade tackles with the Gunners, the Seagulls battle League One side Crawley Town on August 27, 2024, in a Round 2 fixture of the EFL Cup.
