Brighton & Hove Albion are closing in on making their third transfer before the summer as they look to sign Mahmoud Dahoud.
The Seagulls are on the verge of making the European football next season with the team sitting seventh in the Premier League.
The prospective midfielder was always set to depart Signal-Iduna Park when his contract expires at the end of this season and had been linked to several clubs.
Mahmoud Dahoud spent the majority of his time this season recovering from a shoulder injury.
Futballnews understands that Dahoud was previously in talks with Aston Villa, Brentford, Leicester City, Newcastle United, and West Ham United from the Premier League alone.
But they are set to be beaten to his signing by Brighton, with a deal to take the Germany international to the Amex Stadium close to being finalized as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported that Brighton are on the verge of signing Borussia Dortmund’s ex-Gladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud on a free transfer.
Romano tweeted: “Brighton are closing in on verbal agreement to sign Mahmoud Dahoud as free agent this summer.”
“Dahoud will leave Borussia Dortmund on free deal — he’s been approached by PL, Bundes & Serie A clubs.”
“Deal now very advanced with Brighton as parties are waiting to fix final details and then sign documents.”
“Dahoud could become Brighton’s third signing after £30m João Pedro [already official] and free James Milner [almost done] — if all goes to plan.”
Brighton recently announced the signing of Brazilian forward Joao Pedro from Watford for a fee that could reach £30m, and also James Milner on a free transfer from Liverpool.
Mahmoud Dahoud could be Brighton’s third signing before the proper transfer window opens in the summer.
The Seagulls have enjoyed an awesome season under coach Roberto De Zerbi and he has succeeded in making them the most entertaining teams in the Premier League.
After replacing Graham Potter mid-season, De Zerbi has helped Brighton reach FA Cup semifinals and are also still within a distance of qualifying for Europe next season.
Futballnews also understands that Brighton have accepted that World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister will leave this summer, with Liverpool intent on completing a deal as soon as possible.
The Seagulls are keen on keeping Arsenal’s January target Moises Caicedo but will listen to offers of around £80m for the Ecuador international.

Why Does Brighton Want Mahmoud Dahoud?
Aside from the fact that Mahmoud has European experience just like Milner and would be a great addition to the team, he is also their perfect fit in the midfield.
Dahoud is silky in possession, able to glide forward from midfield and pick out the perfect pass with the right weight at the right time.
Mahmoud shares a number of traits with his predecessor in the BVB midfield – Ilkay Gündogan.
He is also a willing runner who is equally likely to score as he is to track back and cut out opposition attacks, he is the kind of player every coach would like in their team.
