Bayern Munich are no longer interested in signing David De Gea, after manager Thomas Tuchel “vetoed” the move.
De Gea is currently clubless, following his departure from Manchester United at the end of June 2023.
Despite his remarkable performances on many occasions for the Red Devils last term, several notable howlers tainted his performances.
His inability to function properly as a ball-playing goalkeeper also resulted in his exit from Old Trafford, ending his 12-year stay at Manchester United.
Bayern Munich were understood to be weighing the prospect of signing the Spaniard, due to the injury to goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
However, subsequent reports have claimed that the German giants will not be acquiring the 2-time Premier League Golden Glove winner.
Bayern Munich no longer interested in David De Gea
According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, David De Gea will not be joining Bayern Munich as “Thomas Tuchel has vetoed” the move, due to the imminent return of Manuel Neuer.
Tuchel was also interested in signing Manchester City’s second-choice shot-stopper Stefan Ortega, but that move might not see the light of day.
Florian Plettenberg also revealed that De Gea was willing to join Bayern Munich, but that transfer wouldn’t come to fruition.
He stated: “Talks with De Gea took place. He was willing to join FC Bayern. But it’s off now.”
Manuel Neuer is currently nursing a leg injury sustained in December 2022, and he is expected to return to action in September 2023.
Yann Sommer, who was signed to deputize in Neuer’s stead, has departed the Bavarians for Inter Milan this summer, meaning Bayern Munich would have to make do with Sven Ulreich pending his return.
Sven Ulreich manned the post in the curtain raiser of the 2023/24 German football season, and he shipped in three goals in the DFL-Supercup.
Which club will De Gea ply his trade in the 2023/24 season?
Meanwhile, David De Gea is still in search of a club before the 2023/24 season, despite interests from Real Madrid and Saudi Arabia.
Los Blancos reportedly turned down the chance to sign the ex-Atletico Madrid goalie to cover for Thibaut Courtois, who picked up an injury on August 10, 2023.
For Saudi Arabia, it appears De Gea isn’t fascinated by the prospect of playing in the Saudi Pro League, as he wants to continue plying his trade in Europe.
David De Gea picked up the Premier League Golden Glove award for the 2022/23 season, having kept 17 clean sheets in 38 league appearances.
The 32-year-old made 545 appearances for Manchester United across all competitions, and he kept 147 clean sheets in the Premier League.
If Bayern Munich still opts to sign a goalkeeper this summer, it has been reported that they are close to signing Maccabi Tel Aviv goalie Daniel Peretz.
It is unknown where David De Gea would be plying his trade in the coming months, or if his status as a free agent would be unchanged.
