    Inter Milan are edging closer to signing Switzerland International Yann Sommer from Bayern Munich for a transfer fee worth €6 million.

    According to reports, Sommer will sign a four-year deal with the Nerazzurri, which will keep him in Lombardy until June 2027.

    Yann Sommer has made 25 appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring no goal and providing no assist.

    The 34-year-old kept 8 cleansheets in 29 German Bundesliga appearances, having joined Bayern Munich from Borussia Monchengladbach in January 2023.

    The Bavarian giants signed Sommer from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of €9 million and he has been impressive in his short stint at the Allianz Arena.

    He was brought in to fill in the void occasioned by the injury to German shot-stopper Manuel Neuer.

    In his 6 months stay in Munich, Yann Sommer assisted Bayern Munich to win the German Bundesliga title.

    Following Andre Onana’s departure to Manchester United, Inter Milan are in search of a goalkeeper to replace the Cameroonian.

    Sommer will be coming in as a viable replacement, given his wealth of experience and immense qualities as a goalkeeper.

    The former FC Basel man will become Inter Milan’s 5th signing of the summer, having already signed Kristjan Asllani, Yann Aurel Bisseck, Davide Frattesi and Francesco Acerbi 

    According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Yann Sommer will put pen-to-paper on a deal with the Nerazzurri on Monday, July 7, 2023.

    Inter Milan have a rich list of incredible goalkeepers in the past, including; Julio Cesar and Samir Handanovic.

    34-year-old Sommer is set to get into the illustrious list and he appears ready and pumped up for the role.

    Despite the Switzerland goalkeeper joining Bayern Munich as a stop-gap for the injured Manuel Neuer, the return of the German goalkeeper meant that his playing time will reduce significantly.

    Sommer has opted to move to Inter Milan where he would be guaranteed a starting shirt.

    The Nerazzurri finished 3rd in the Serie A last term and they would be aiming to win the Serie A in the 2023/24 season.

    Inter won the Coppa Italia on May 24, 2023 defeating Fiorentina by 2-1, courtsey of a brace from Lautaro Martinez.

    They had a chance to double their trophy for last season, but they lost the final of the UEFA Champions League by 1-0 to Manchester City.

    However, the Guissepe Meazza side would be contented with the campaign they had last term.

    Simone Inzaghi’s side are also looking to make other reinforcements as they have been linked to Manchester United defender Harry Maguire and Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun.

    Yann Sommer has made 83 appearances for Switzerland, scoring no goal and providing no assist.

    He has played for several clubs in his career, namely; Vaduz, Basel, Grasshoppers, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayern Munich.
