Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen have signed Nigeria striker Victor Boniface from Union St Gilloise for a transfer fee worth around £20 million.
It was reported that Boniface will have his medical on July 22, 2023 after that he will sign five years deal with Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayer Leverkusen want Boniface to replace the club’s striker, Patrik Schick, who may not be available at the beginning of the season.
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso watched the striker play against his own club in the Europa League and was quite impressed with his performance.
Alonso described him as a serious threat to his defense. The 22-year-old striker scored 17 goals in all competitions last season with Union St. Gilloise.
Out of the 17 goals scored, six were in the Europa League, where the striker ended the season with the same goal as Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford in the competition.
His performances last season earned him a place on the team of the season. Everton were also interested in the player but could not meet the asking price of £20 million.
Everton will continue to look for a striker and are already interested in signing Viktor Gyokeres but the striker had already set his mind in moving to the Portuguese League to play for Sporting CP.
