According to the club’s report, the transfer fee for this signing amounts to €10 million.

The transfer had previously received minimal speculation but has made significant progress in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Gladbach attempted to extend Hofmann’s contract beyond 2025 and remove the release clause, but unfortunately, they were not successful in doing so.

However, Die Werkself successfully exercised a clause in Hofmann’s contract, allowing them to attract the 30-year-old player to the BayArena.

They have signed the German International on a four-year deal that will last until the summer of 2027.

Simon Rolfes, Leverkusen’s sporting director stated that the club have had a long-standing relationship with Jonas, and they are delighted that he has chosen to join Bayer 04.

He further emphasized that Hofmann perfectly suits the kind of player the club need at the moment.

Rolfes said: “He perfectly fits the profile of the player we were seeking to strengthen our squad.”

During the previous season, Hofmann made 33 appearances for the Foals, where he scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists.

Hofmann also had the opportunity to participate in the 2022 World Cup with Germany. However, he only played for a total of 28 minutes across the three group games.

Regarding the transfer, Hofmann expressed his gratitude towards Borussia for the past seven years.

He said: “I had a wonderful time there. Lately, I’ve been experiencing a desire to try something different.”

“Bayer 04 aligns perfectly with these sentiments. The club has consistently been one of the top German clubs for many years and has always maintained a strong international ambition.”

“The team is incredibly exciting and possesses an astonishing level of quality. I am truly thrilled about the upcoming chapter.”

Hofmann will possibly bring his great skills and experience to improve Xabi Alonso’s side in Leverkusen.

Depending on Moussa Diaby’s future, Hofmann’s arrival could potentially result in the Frenchman being moved to the left-hand side.

However, for Gladbach, this will be yet another significant setback, as they will not only be losing Hofmann but also Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini, and captain Lars Stindl.
