Nigeria women’s national team striker Asisat Oshoala added another honor to the record books as her former club Barcelona Femeni emerged champions of the 2023-24 UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Goals from Spanish duo Bonmati and Alexis Putellas saw Barcelona Femeni and Spanish women’s league champions triumph over their French counterpart Lyon on Saturday, May 25.

Asisat Oshoala played in the group stages of the competition for Barcelona Femeni before leaving the club for Bay FC in the United States, hence she was entitled to a medal.
This means the CAF Women’s Footballer of the Year is the first female footballer from Africa to win three UEFA Women’s Champions League titles.
The 29-year-old Ikorodu-born Nigeria international won her first UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy with Barcelona in the 2020/21 season, a year after she joined the club from Chinese side Dalian Quanjian.
She won her second in the 2022/23 season before recently adding her third and possibly her last with Barcelona Femeni to the collection.
Asisat Oshoala at Bay FC
After a heroic five-year career with Barcelona women, Oshoala joined Bay FC, in the National Women’s Soccer (NWSL) in the United States.
She reportedly penned down a two-year contract with the club till 2026 with an option for 2027. So far, the prolific Nigerian forward has made 5 l appearances for the club, scoring one goal.
