AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho has made it clear that the 28-year-old is at the top of his summer transfer priority as he attempts to sign the Argentine ahead of Inter Milan and Napoli.

With no advanced deals in the works as of yet, Dybala, whose seven-year stay at Juventus ended at the end of last season, is still unsure of his future. However, Mourinho is optimistic that a deal can be reached.

The Portuguese manager personally spoke with Dybala on the phone a week ago, according to Corriere Dello Sport, to convince Dybala to choose Roma over Serie A rivals Inter Milan and Napoli. Mourinho reportedly hoped to sign the Argentine in time for Roma’s preseason training camp this week, but that now seems unlikely.

Director Tiago Pinto will formally propose Roma’s offer to the player’s agent within the next 24 hours after being prodded to act decisively by the former Spurs manager. With the additions of Zeki Celik, Nemanja Matic, and Mile Svilar already announced, the Italian team is hoping to do business early in the transfer season.

Due to Roma’s inability to match the salary given by the Nerazzurri, which was rumored to be in the range of €6 million per year plus €1 million in add-ons, it appeared that Dybala would be moving to Inter Milan.

However, after Romelu Lukaku was signed, they were forced to see if they will sell either Edin Dzeko or Joaquin Correa in response to requests from Dybala’s management. Romelu Lukaku joined Inter Milan this summer on a long-term loan from Chelsea after he had a difficult 2021/22 season.

The Belgian earlier made it known in May that he wanted to leave Chelsea because he was unhappy with Thomas Tuchel’s style of play. Meanwhile, Juventus are currently searching for a replacement for their defender Matthijs de Ligt who’s likely to leave this summer. The Netherlands defender has reacted to the current poor performance of the team by saying that he wants to join another team.

Many clubs across Europe are pushing to secure his services but according to reports, he desires to join German Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich. This claim has also been confirmed by Bayern Munich Chief Executive Officer Oliver Kahn who said that the player is interested in joining them. However, no official offer has been made that could be completed in the coming days.
