Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed the decision to sign former Chelsea star Kai Havertz was not his own.
Speaking ahead of the Gunners‘ highly-anticipated London derby against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, the Premier League title-chasing manager said Arsenal’s sporting director Edu and other club officials agreed to a move for Kai Havertz before talks was initiated with Chelsea.
“It’s not my decision, it’s our decision.
“We were super aligned with the club’s vision and then obviously on the sporting side, we made a recommendation.
“A lot of people were involved and then you need the ownership to back you as well and make things happen,” Arteta said.
Kai Havertz, who switched to the red side of London on a £65m transfer, has been in red-hot form for the club.
He has been integral to the Gunners’ push for the Premier League title this season, making 33 Premier League appearances for the club with 16 goal contributions.
The German attacking midfielder hunt his former club Chelsea, scoring a brace to fire the Gunners to a thumping 5-0 Premier League victory over the Blues in their last game.
The brace saw the 24-year-old, who is mainly deployed as a striker by Arteta, take his Premier League tally for Arsenal to 11 goals.
He will hope to continue on his prolific form as Arsenal ready their charges against Tottenham Hotspur to stay put in the Premier League title race.
