Last season, Martinez was stellar when he stepped up and replaced Bernd Leno after the German was sidelined following a clash with Brighton’s Neal Maupay.

Martinez will now be Aston Villa’s third signing of the summer after they broke their transfer record to sign Ollie Watkins from Brentford on a five-year deal, and Matty Cash joined on a five-year deal from Nottingham Forest.

Brighton are understood to have been interested in Martinez, however, he opted for a move to Villa, and his wage is expected to treble to around £60,000-a-week.
