Arsenal fans took to social media to lash out at one Nottingham Forest for ‘selling’ their Premier League match to Manchester City.
Nottingham Forest failed to stop Manchester City’s push for their fourth Premier League title in a row.
Goals from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland, both assisted by Kevin De Bruyne, saw the Cityzens salvage all three points at City Ground.
The win took the Premier League and European champions to a point behind Arsenal with a game in hand.
One Nottingham Forest player, Chris Wood, dominated the headlines for his awful performance for the Tricky Trees in the game.
Severally, the New Zealand foward was put through on goal inside the City box but he kept on firing off target and in some cases being wrong-footed with the passes.
Two of Chris Wood’s misses really unnerved Arsenal fans, including Nottingham Forest fans. They were literally sitters, just three yards away from the goal.
On both occasions, he had only Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega to beat but ended up squandering the chances.
Had Chris Wood taken his numerous chances, it would have gone a long way to twist the game and possibly secure a point for the hosts but that was not to be.
And Arsenal fans were upset the forward’s mistake allowed City to win the game and keep tabs on the Premier League title race.
Some Arsenal fans blasted the player for selling the game with others cutting him some slacks, saying it was just a bad day.
A fan wrote, ” Chris Wood actually sold this game. Even a toddler could convert those sitters he missed.”
Another Arsenal fan wrote, “What an awful player. How did he miss these chances?.”
Another fan said, “Chris Wood must have had a bad day. It is just too poor for a Premier League player.”
While City’s win over Nottingham Forest kept Arsenal’s title charge in check, the Gunners are still strongly in the race which has now narrowed down to a two-horse race with Liverpool derailing recently.
