Anthony Elanga Joins Nottingham Forest From Manchester United

Nottingham Forests have confirmed the signing of Anthony Elanga from Manchester United.

Elanga is joining the Tricky Trees on a five-year deal for an undisclosed transfer fee.

The Sweden international, who was sparingly used by Manchester United new manager Erik Ten Hag, will hope to revive his career at City Ground. He is the second player to join Nottingham Forest this summer after the signing of Nigerian footballer Ola Aina, who joined the club on Saturday from Torino.

Elanga started his professional career with Manchester United but have had spells with Elfsborg and Malmo youth team in Sweden before joining Manchester United youth.

He was scouted by Manchester City and Manchester United before United got the better of their rivals and snap the fast-rising youngster.

After a successful spell with Manchester United youth, Elanga was promoted to Manchester United first team in 2020 and made his senior team debut for the club in a preseason friendly with Premier League rivals Aston Villa, coming on as a late substitute.

He was subsequently called up for first team action with the club but ended up on the bench as unused substitute before finally making his competitive debut against Leicester City on May 2021. He scored his first Manchester United goal in the club’s final matchday clash against Wolves in the Premier League.

After the break-in 2020/21 season, Anthony Elanga struggled for a starting berth in Man United squad.

He made 22 Premier League appearances for the club in 2021/22 season, scoring 2 goals with 2 assists.

Under Erik Ten Hag last season, Elanga managed 16 Premier League appearances mostly coming from the bench. He made 5 Europa League and 4 EFL Cup appearances for the team. In all competitions, Elanga has made 55 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 4 goals.

He is also active with Sweden national team and has made 12 appearances for the team, scoring 3 goals.

Elanga is the second Manchester United player to be sold by Erik Ten Hag this summer after the departure of Alex Telles to Al Nassr and the third player to leave the club after the exit of David De Gea.

More first team players are expected to leave the club this summer with Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, and Fred expected to make the exit list as Ten Hag continues in his squad overhaul.

Out-of-favor Ivorien defender Eric Bailly is also expected to leave the club this summer despite having a year left on his contract. Bailly has not returned to Manchester United preseason following his loan spell with Marseille and has been linked with a move away from the club.

Elanga has signed a five-year contract with Nottingham Forest till 2028. While the transfer fee is not disclosed, sources close to the player have revealed Manchester United have pocketed £15m from Elanga’s move.
