Bayern Munich left-back, Alphonso Davies, is not keeping it cool with his situation at Bayern Munich amid links to a summer exit.
The 22-year-old Canada international is a regular starter for the Bavarians but has disclosed he is not happy at the club.
Playing as a left-back, the ‘Roadrunner,’ who is known for his deadly and incredible speed complained of being played out of position at Bayern Munich.
Speaking on Say Less podcast, Davies narrated how the injury of a former Bayern Munich left-back, David Alaba, pulled a twist in his preferred role at Bayern Munich.
Davies revealed he was intended to be used as an attacking winger at Bayern Munich to replace Bayern Munich legend, Arjen Robben, but after Alaba’s injury, he was asked to stand in for the Austrian and he has ended up on the role.
”I was signed to replace Arjen Robben and when David Alaba got injured, I was then used as a full-back. And now, three, four years later, I’m stuck there,” Davies said.
The Canada international added, he is eager to play as a striker and would like to be deployed up front.
”I am waiting for the chance to play up front.”
Arjen Robben was a sensational attacking winger at Bayern Munich. Robben hit the peaks of his club career, scoring 99 Bundesliga goals in 201 appearances for Bayern Munich.
After 10 years with the Bavarians, the Dutch footie icon left Bayern Munich to Eredivisie side, Groningen, in his homeland, where he subsequently called time on his football career in 2021.
Since his departure, Bayern Munich have signed the likes of Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, and Alphonso Davies to step into his shoe.
The trio have had a great career with Bayern Munich winning domestic titles and Champions League trophy but Arjen Robben seems to have left a big vacuum when the stats are compared.
Sane is a great dribbler like Robben but his goal stats per game lie low to Robben’s. Sane has 21 goals in 96 appearances since joining Bayern Munich in 2020 from Manchester City.
Serge Gnabry is another prolific forward that was signed to fit into the shoes of Robben. Gnabry’s magic is his prolific goal-scoring stats but can’t match Robben’s dribbling and ball-carrying skills. He has 60 goals in 156 appearances since joining the club in 2017.
Alphonso Davies, who has been deployed deep as a left-back has 6 goals in 100 appearances.
Despite the apparent role deadlock at Bayern Munich, Alphonso’s career is largely a successful one. He has won all domestic trophies with the club, including the Champions League.
Davies starts regularly for Bayern Munich. In the just-concluded 2022/23 season, he made 26 appearances for the club with four assists and a goal.
Alphonso Davies has two years remaining in his Bayern Munich contract but he is linked to a move to Real Madrid. There are projections the Canadian may likely leave the club with his recent grievances.
