Alexandra Ivarsdottir, the wife of Everton attacking midfielder, Gylfi Sigurdsson said her husband was not arrested and detained as social media reports have been speculating.

During the weekend, a report broke that an unnamed Premier League football star was caught and arrested for texting underage girls for sexual purposes. Since the allegation was still under investigation, the name of the player and the club he played for were not named.

Later on, it was confirmed that the Premier League player happens to be a 31-year-old and a first-team player of his club and country who earns millions per season.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police, read: “Officers arrested a 31-year-old man on Friday 16 July 2021 on suspicion of child sex offenses. He is on police bail pending further inquiries.”

When most football fans were trying to assume who the 31-year-old player was, another report surfaced that the Premier League club has suspended the player until the investigation is concluded.

A statement the club released to Mirror Football read: “The Club can confirm it has suspended a first-team player pending a police investigation.

“The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”

Afterward, it was confirmed that the player has been earning a fortune since he made a multi-million euros move to his current club. And it was revealed that the Premier League club in question was Everton football club.

Instantly, people on social media limited their suspicion on the only two players at the club that are 31-year-old. Those two players are Fabian Delph and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

However, fingers began to point towards Sigurdsson more than Delph because the description of the Premier League footballer fit the 31-year-old Icelandic footballer more than any other person.

This is so because Gylfi Sigurdsson joined Everton from Swansea in a multi-million euros deal on August 16, 2017. That is, Everton paid €49.40 million to bring the Iceland international to the club.

Also, Sigurdsson is a prominent footballer in Iceland national team and the Premier League, Everton in particular. He earns a whopping £5.2 million per year based on the 5-year contract he signed with Everton in 2017.

Hence, it was easier for social media users to allege that Sigurdsson was the 31-year-old Premier League football star that was arrested for texting underage girls for sexual purposes.

Most social media trollers claimed that he was caught by Paedophile hunters but his wife, Alexandra Ivarsdottir insisted that none of that was true according to a report by global247news.

The fact that it was the wife that came out to debunk the speculation generated more suspicion because if he was not in police custody as the speculation claimed, he should be the one that should come out to clear himself not his wife.

At the time of publishing this report, the footballer was yet to make any public statement while Everton were yet to make any other statement concerning the matter.
