What Is The Women’s Ballon d’Or?
The Women’s Ballon d’Or, or Ballon d’Or Féminin, is an association football prize given out by France Football to the player who was judged to have played the best during the previous season.
It was given out for the first time in 2018 to a Norwegian woman named Ada Hegerberg.
The only players to have been nominated for the award each year since its introduction (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023) are French defender Wendie Renard and Australian attacker Sam Kerr.
The only player that consistently ranks in the top 7 and among the top 20 nominees each year is Sam Kerr.
Alexia Putellas, the captain of Barcelona, made history in 2022 by being the first player to win the accolade twice in a row.
