Wolverhampton Wanderers were one of the strongest and consistent clubs in the Premier League last season. They proved to the big boys of the league that they could also rub shadows with them and they did it in style.
However, their tireless effort throughout the season earned them a 7th place finish losing only 9 matches and drawing 14 out of 38 Premier League games. This was not good enough to qualify them for Europa League, unlike the 2018-2019 season.
With this misfortune still very fresh at the back of coach Nuno Espírito Santo‘s mind, the club is condemned to do more and qualify for at least the Europa League at the end of the 2020-2021 season. Even though making it that far in this season’s league table seems like a very tall order for Wolves, Nuno might have no excuse if he fails to qualify for Europa.
The campaign to better their last season’s performance started for Nuno and his boys on September 14 against Sheffield United. As expected Wolves beat their host 0-2.
However, their next Premier League match on September 21 proved to be an uphill task. Wolves met with Manchester City in
Molineux Stadium and City beat Wolves 3-1 on their own turf. Their worse defeat so far came on September 27 when Wolves visited West Ham. They returned to Molineux Stadium after a 4-0 bashing.
