Gernot Rohr has reacted to the terms and conditions attached to the new contract which was proposed by Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation NFF, Amaju Pinnick. In the new contract which was proposed by the NFF chairman, about three new conditions and changes have been attached to his contract.

The conditions include: Gernot Rohr must accept to be paid in Nigerian currency which is Naira instead of dollars that were usually used to pay his salary before. He must also stay in Nigeria and lastly, he must watch the Nigerian local league division in a bid to select more home-based players into the national team.

Gernot Rohr whose contract with the Nigerian Football Federation ought to end in June 2020 has reacted to the conditions attached to his contract after the NFF chairman went on live TV to announce the new conditions that are attached to Rohr’s contract.

In an Instagram live video with ace sports journalist Colin Udoh expressed his thoughts about how the NFF chairman went on air to discuss the conditions attached to his new contract. He, however, stated that even before now, he spends more time in Nigeria than Europe. He barely goes to Europe unless for important functions that can not be dodged. Also, about him seeing more matches of the Nigerian football league in order to be able to select more home-based players, the German tactician stated that he has invited no fewer than twenty-four home-based players since he came on board as the coach of the Super Eagles.

He went further that quite a number of the Nigerian home-based players have been able to get a contract from different clubs in Europe simply because they were given the chance to prove themselves in the Super Eagles jersey.

Gernot Rohr stated emphatically that he’s not all about money, he is just happy doing what he likes. According to him, he has been declined some offers from different countries who were even ready to pay more simply because he has prioritized managing the Nigerian team and he looks forward to taking the team to the next AFCON and World Cup.

Quoting his words : “My philosophy is not to speak publicly about these things. I saw, like you, what was said on social media, but I can’t comment.

“Already, I’ve spent more time in Nigeria over the past three years. All my players, except one, plays abroad.”

“I’m waiting for the (contract) proposal. Things could be very easy. I don’t want more money, bonuses… just want to keep doing this.

“Personally, I received a few offers from other countries but I rejected them. I just want to take this team to the next AFCON and World Cup.”

“I’ve invited about 24 local players since I was appointed. Funnily, most of them get a contract in Europe almost immediately.

“It’s difficult getting local players who are better than the ones we already have. That’s why CHAN is important.”
