Struggling Everton had Liverpool work hard for their win, putting in a well-organized and disciplined display that will give them hope of avoiding relegation, but it was not enough to stop Jurgen Klopp’s quadruple-chasing team.

Liverpool can win in a variety of ways, and after thrashing Manchester United on Tuesday, they showed patience to ultimately break down Everton’s tenacious defense in what may out to be a valuable victory.

After 62 minutes, Andy Robertson arrived at the far post in front of the Kop to head home Mo Salah’s cross, breaking the deadlock.

Everton was unable to respond, despite the outstanding Anthony Gordon’s shot across the face of the goal, and Liverpool sealed the victory when substitute Divock Origi headed in Luis Diaz’s bicycle kick with six minutes remaining.

Everton has dropped into the bottom three

For the first time since December 6, Everton will end the day in the Premier League’s relegation zone.

This is the first time the Toffees have been in the bottom three this early in a season since 1998-99.

This season, Everton has lost 19 Premier League games. They’ve never had that many losses in a 38-game season.

For the first time since August to November 1948, Everton has lost eight straight away matches in all competitions.

Frank Lampard, Everton manager, commenting to Sky Sports: “I think we did a good job. With what they are doing to other teams, the gameplan was to recognize that they are one of the finest teams in the world. We desired to be disciplined and generate opportunities. We had a couple of chances; the first half was good, and we got off to a good start in the second half. The game changes if we score the first goal.”
