Since his re-election as president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta has been as occupied as a bee. There has been a lot of work to do, from addressing a series of financial issues to resurrecting the club to its former glory.
With a series of transfers under his belt and more coming, Laporta chatted with RTVE about what he’s up to now and what he has planned for the future.
During the conversation, Ousmane Dembele’s contract renewal was a prominent topic. In response, Laporta stated “The contract ends in the summer and we have to sit down and talk. I know he is comfortable in Barcelona. We’ll see what happens.”
He made this statement the following on Erling Haaland’s likely incorporation and Lionel Messi’s return “Haaland? We are not going to incorporate any player who alters the salary system. As for Messi, the doors are always open at Barcelona.”
He added a statement about Xavi, whose leadership has resulted in the team’s amazing revival “Hiring Xavi is one of the best decisions I’ve made during this mandate.”
Laporta also breezes over a few other details, such as the deal with CVC, which is still on the table. He does say, though, that he wants to make sure the agreement is feasible and would not result in future debt.
He underlines that if the CVC arrangement does not work out, he has two other options for increasing revenue for the club.
