Tottenham Hotspur will meet with Newcastle United on Sunday, October 17, 2021, to play their 8th Premier League game of the season without two of their players.

The latest report from the Premier League club confirmed that the two players contracted the virus when they were on international duty.

The two players who have not been named at the time of publishing this report, trained with the team on Thursday, October 14, 2021. When the two players were tested for the virus afterward, they returned negative results.

During the pre-match press conference ahead of the Tottenham vs Newcastle United clash, the coach of Spurs, Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed that the two players are first-team stars.

They are currently self-isolating which means that they would not be available for the Premier League game against Newcastle United. The club has confirmed that there was no other player that has to isolate ahead of the game.

Coach Nuno described the absence of the two players as “huge issues” nothing that there are problems he would only talk about after the game against Newcastle.

“After the international break there are always huge issues that happen,” Nuno said. “We have problems but I will not say before the game.”

Recall that after the September international break, a couple of Tottenham Hotspur players returned with different degrees of injuries.

In the three Premier League games Tottenham Hotspur played in September, they recorded three successive defeats before they got a win against Aston Villa on October 3.

This run of games has placed Tottenham Hotspur in the 8th spot on the league table with 12 points in 7 games, four points away from first-placed Chelsea.

Amid the poor run of games and the two players that have contracted coronavirus, Tottenham Hotspur will be without Romero, Lo Celso, and Emerson.

The three players played on Friday morning, October 15, in the South America World Cup qualification series. They are expected to be in London today, October 16 ahead of the clash against Newcastle United on Sunday.

But the possibility that the three players would play for Spurs this weekend is very low due to the time factor and the coronavirus restrictions in the United Kingdom.

Coach Nuno said: “The report that we have is that they finished their games well. Some of them played 90 minutes, Davinson Sanchez no, but what we are expecting is for them to join us and then we’ll see.”

On the form of Spurs’ striker, Harry Kane, the coach of Tottenham Hotspur said: “I am being very honest, I don’t see anything different. Just realizing that will happen, happens naturally as Harry is a fantastic football player, one of the best in the world.

“So we have to provide things to happen. Sometimes he needs time. His game goes much more beyond goals, the work he does for the team is immense and helpful.

“As a team, we need to provide, as a club and when I say club we need to realize it is like that sometimes you are on top of the world and sometimes you are not.

“But you always need the same support and everyone should be supportive of our players, especially our fans.

“I support them with the training session and I support them with the solutions I think are better for them.

“I support them when I need to speak with them. Every time. There is no difference on how I deal with Harry and how I deal with Dane (Scarlett) for example.

“They are different people and each and everyone needs different things and it is up to us to find the right moments to do it and always being helpful and supportive.”
