Chelsea’s interest in Achraf Hakimi of Inter Milan looks impossible as French Ligue 1 side, Paris Saint Germain have waded into it and they are looking like the favorites to land the Moroccan.
The Premier League club who are the reigning UEFA Champions League winners were the first to enter negotiation with Inter Milan over the signing of the Moroccan superstar. Chelsea’s coach, Thomas Tuchel wanted to use him to improve his team ahead of the 2021-2022 season.
Hence, Chelsea reportedly approached Inter Milan with the sum of 60 million euros for the services of Achraf Hakimi who joined Inter Milan in 2020 from Real Madrid for just 45 million euros.
The bid of the Premier League club did not match up with Inter Milan’s valuation of the player who has a price tag worth 80 million euros.
As the negotiations were ongoing, PSG came into the picture with a more improved bid. Reports in Italy said the French club has submitted a bid worth 70 million to Inter Milan which could convince the Italian side to sell the player to PSG instead of Chelsea.
Recall that Inter Milan are currently battling with financial crisis and they are ready to sacrifice some of their best players to raise money to pay up their debts.
Achraf Hakimi who played an important role in helping Inter Milan win the 2020-2021 Italian Serie A title could be one of the players that might be sacrificed this summer. Hence, Inter Milan would sell the player to the highest bidder who happens to PSG.
The 22-year-old Moroccan right midfielder still has until June 2025 before his contract with Inter Milan expires. But it is most likely he would not have to wait that long before he leaves the club.
In the just-concluded 2020-2021 season, Achraf Hakimi scored 7 goals and provided 11 assists in 45 games in all competitions for Inter Milan. The versatile footballer can play in the midfield and as a right-back.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are still pushing to sign Borussia Dortmund striker, Erling Haaland who is one of the most wanted strikers in Europe.
Reports claimed that Chelsea might have to pay the sum of 150 million euros to sign the Norwegian youngster from Dortmund this summer.
Tuchel is looking at how he could improve his attack ahead of the season and has prioritized the signing of the Norwegian striker. Reports claimed that Haaland’s representatives have agreed in some terms with Chelsea which could see the Norwegian sign for the Premier League club this summer.
