Ruben Dias was the Premier League player of the year in the just concluded 2020-2021 season. He was one of the three Manchester City team members that got an award at the Premier League end of the season award announced on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

Before Ruben Dias was declared the Premier League player of the season, he won the Football Writers’ Association award in May 2021 which means that he ended the season with two personal awards.

The 24-year-old Portuguese center-back won the Premier League player of the season ahead of his Manchester City teammate, Kevin De Bruyne, and Tottenham Hotspur striker Hanry Kane.

Other players who were nominated for the Premier League player of the season were Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

In the just-concluded 2020-2021 season, Ruben Dias played 32 games out of the 38 games of the season. The Portugal international scored just a goal in the entire Premier League campaign.

The effort of the 24-year-old center-back helped Manchester City to win the Premier League title after recording just 6 defeats, 5 draws and 27 wins in 38 games.

Ruben Dias joined Manchester City from Benfica for a transfer fee worth £61.20 million on September 29, 2020. And in his first season at the club (2020-2021 season), he was able to establish himself to the extent he ended the season as the best player in the league.

The 24-year-old Portuguese defender who signed a deal with Manchester City which reportedly earns him €115,385-per-week is expected to remain at the Premier League club until June 30, 2026.

Though it is rare for a defender to be named the best Premier League player of the season, the performance of the Portuguese star contributed immensely to Manchester City’s triumph in the league. Hence, it couldn’t be left unnoticed.

In the just-concluded Premier League season, Ruben Dias made 24 tackles out of which 54 percent were successful. He made 35 interceptions, 90 clearances, 49 of which were headed clearance.

Also, Dias made 135 recoveries, won 111 duels, won 62 Aerial battles, and ended the 2020-2021 season without making any error that led to a goal.

On the other hand, the coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, won the Premier League manager of the season ahead of the coach of Leicester City, Brendan Rodgers.

Other coaches in the category include Leeds United coach Marcelo Bielsa, West Ham’s David Moyes, and Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Guardiola won the Premier League manager of the season after winning the Premier League title with 86 points in 38 games, 12 points above second-placed Manchester United.

Also, the club’s fast-rising star, Phil Foden won the Premier League Young Player of the Season award ahead of Chelsea’s midfielder Mason Mount, and West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek.
