Liverpool vs Chelsea Premier League match has has ended in a win for Liverpool, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones.
The Reds ended Chelsea’s perfect away start to the 2024-25 Premier League with a 2-1 victory over the London club at Anfield.
Mo Salah scored from the spot and Curtis Jones netted from close range as the Merseyside outfit scraped past the hard-fighting visitors to go top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool went into the game unbeaten in their last six Premier League meetings with Chelsea, though five of these have ended level.
Meanwhile, Chelsea could only manage one win in their last nine Premier League away games against Liverpool, drawing 5 and losing 3. One of the defeats was a 4-1 loss at Anfield last season.
For Liverpool, they had only lost two of their last 19 fixtures against the Blues since they recorded three consecutive defeats in 2013 and 2014.
Also, they had conceded the fewest goals (2), kept the most clean sheets (5), and have the lowest expected goals against figure (5.2) of any side in the Premier League this season.
Their opponents had only been undone by Manchester City in goal numbers this season. They had netted 16 times, one less than Manchester City.
Also, they recorded a perfect start to the campaign on their away fixtures, winning all their games – the same feat Liverpool also managed under new manager Arne Slot.
While Chelsea hoped to push for a break into the Premier League top four with a possible victory, Arne Slot’s Liverpool were hoping to regain the top spot on the Premier League table after Manchester City scored late to win at Molineux Stadium against Wolves to go top.

Chelsea recorded the first big chance of the game in the 12th minute. Sancho was played into the box by a long ball from goalkeeper Sanchez. The former Manchester United winger laid the ball back for Gusto at the edge of the box. But the Chelsea full-back’s cross into the box was hit with too much power and it sailed out for a goal-kick.
In the 18th minute, a howler from Chelsea goalkeeper Sanchez nearly caused the Blues to concede. He received a back pass from James but didn’t know what to do with it as Gakpo closed him down quickly. Following the pressure, he ended up playing the ball against the Liverpool attacker and was fortunate to hold on to it on the rebound.
Chelsea conceded a penalty in the 27th minute. Jones went down inside the visitors’ box after contact from Colwill and the referee pointed to the spot. Liverpool had a great opportunity to draw the first blood and Mo Salah converted it with ease.
Two minutes after the hour mark, Liverpool nearly made it 2-0 up. Gakpo had arrived at the far post to turn in a cross from Salah. But the flag was up for offside, and the goal was ruled out, to Chelsea’s relief.
In the 45+2nd minute, Sanchez brought down Jones inside the box with a slide, and the referee pointed to the spot again. The goalkeeper saw a yellow card for the incident but the yellow card was shelved and the penalty decision overturned after VAR check.
Nicolas Jackson nets the equalizer!
Three minutes into the restart, Chelsea made it 1-1. Jackson had the ball in the back of the net after he got behind the Liverpool defence and slotted it past Kelleher. But the assistant referee had his flag up for offside and the goal was ruled out. VAR immediately called for a check on the goal after being disallowed. After a long check, it was allowed to stand.

Jones got on the end of a cross from Salah with the Blues defence caught sleeping. He brought the ball under his control with his first touch before firing past Sanchez.
Jones’ strike ushered in a long stretch of action with no goal as the two sides battled to find the back of the net. Chelsea put up a strong showing, dominating proceedings and completing more touches in the Liverpool area, but couldn’t find the back of the net.
The game ended with Liverpool holding on to secure a deserved 2-1 victory and return to the summit of the Premier League table with 21 points – a point better than Manchester City.
They will take on RB Leipzig in their next clash in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, before traveling to take on Arsenal at the Emirates in the Premier League on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
Chelsea will hope to return to winning ways following the defeat. They are sixth on the Premier League table with 14 points and will play Panathinaikos in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday, October 24, before taking on Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
