It is no longer news that Manchester United made four signings on the deadline day. But we will like to take a cursory look at the transfer businesss done by the club and how they can help improve the Red Devils.

The transfer is following 6-1 trashing against Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday at Old Trafford.

After announcing the arrival of Edison Cavani to the club on a two-year deal, United also announced the signing of Brazilian left-back Alex Telles from Porto, as well as Uruguayan youngster Facundo Pellistri from Penarol on a five-year contract.

United also secured the signature for Atalanta winger Amad Diallo. The 18-year-old winger will join the Red Devils in January.

Alex Telles signs for United

Despite playing only 25 minutes for Atalanta in Serie A, United were keen to sign the young winger for a fee worth in the region of £18.2 million-plus £9.1m in add-ons.

Meanwhile, Chris Smalling has finally left the club permanently, moving to AS Roma after he had spent last season there on loan.

How the new signing can improve Manchester United squad

Facundo Pellistri

Facundo Pellistri is an 18-year-old talented lad who had already played 37 games for Club Atletico Penarol before joining United on a five-year contract.

Facundo Pellistri

This could be said to be part of United’s future plan as Ole Gunnar Solksjaer continues to rebuild.

“To join a club with the history of Manchester United is a dream come true. I have learnt a lot at Penarol and I would like to thank them for everything they have done for me. To have the confidence of the manager is an amazing feeling and I know that working with him will be perfect for my development.

“I am coming into a squad full of great players who I will learn from every day. Everyone knows that Manchester United is a club that gives young players an opportunity and I am ready to work hard every day to earn those chances and prove myself in England,” Facundo Pellistri said.

Speaking on the transfer Solskjaer said the Urugyuan is a real talent for the long term.

“Our scouts have followed Facundo for a long time and we believe that he will be a real talent for the long term. Whilst we understand it will take time for him to adapt to the English game, he is capable of having an impact with his pace and ability to beat his opponent.

“Facundo has the perfect platform at Manchester United to develop and he has all of the technical qualities and the right mentality required to become a top player here. We are all looking forward to working with him to fulfill his potential over the coming years.”

Alex Telles

Having been on his trail for a long time, Man United finally signed Telles from Porto on a long term deal.

Being a left-back, it is believed that Telles will be able to help solve United’s defensive lapses from that end. Luke Shaw has been in and out of the team due to constant injuries.

Alex Telles is expected to be among the starters at United

The Brazilian is therefore expected to move into the starting line up instantly.

“First and foremost, I welcome Alex to United. He is a player we have been tracking for some time and his performances over the past few years are exactly what we are looking for. He is a fighter and a winner and will add real determination and competition to the squad.

“Alex has the qualities, both as a player and as a person, that we want here at Manchester United,” Solksjaer added.

Edison Cavani

The 33-year-old Urugyuan striker needs no introduction as his record speaks for itself.

Cavani, who is PSG all-time highest goalscorer is a real steal on a free transfer. He is expected to guide United forward during the season and probably next.

Cavani now a Unted player

“Edinson is an experienced ultimate professional who always gives everything for his team,“ the boss said about Cavani. His goalscoring record for club and country is fantastic and we are delighted to sign a player of his calibre.

“He’ll bring energy, power, leadership, and a great mentality to the squad but, most importantly, he’ll bring goals. He has had a brilliant career so far, winning trophies at almost every club he has played for, and he still has so much more to give at the highest level.

“The opportunity for our young players to learn from one of Europe’s top goalscorers over the last 10 years is fantastic and it will really benefit them going forward

“Edinson knows exactly what it takes to succeed and we are all looking forward to seeing him make an impact at Manchester United,” Solksjaer said.
