Barcelona are reportedly lining up a move for a top Liverpool forward to replace Robert Lewandowski as the club brace for necessary summer reinforcement following a poor LaLiga campaign.

The Catalan giants finally got capitulated in the LaLiga title race after surrendering a 2-1 first-half lead to settle for a 4-2 defeat to giant killers Girona.

Christensen opened the scoring for the 2022/23 champions in the third minute but the hosts fought back to level terms immediately through Dovbyk in the fourth minute.

At the stroke of the end of the first half, Girona conceded a spot-kick and Robert Lewandowski made no mistake, tucking it into the back of the net to restore the club’s lead.

The second half met the Xavi-led side in tatters as Girona, inspired by a second-half brace by Portu, and a goal by Gutierrez, completed a dramatic comeback to seal a 4-2 victory.

Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid were crowned champions following the defeat as the closest challengers stumbled away to Girona.

In the wake of the club’s misfortunes this season, manager Xavi Hernandez is reportedly set to go all out this summer to strengthen the squad ahead of the next campaign.

However, such a move is set to be hampered by Barcelona’s financial situation save a significant restructuring that could see top names leave the club and free up the wage books.

Consequently, the former Barcelona player-turned-manager is reportedly ready to part ways with Robert Lewandowski with a top Liverpool striker, Darwin Nunez, emerging as a prime target.

Sources close to the club corroborate Robert Lewandowski is likely to be axed in the summer due to his wage cap amidst the club’s dwindling financial fortunes.

Moreso, the Polish striker seemed not to have impressed Xavi recently, and the 46-year-old is ready to let him off the hook with two years left on his contract.

According to the Sun, Darwin Nunez has been identified as a potential replacement for Lewandowski with the player’s wage more friendly to Barcelona’s limited budget

While the former Benfica forward has improved this season with 18 goals in all competitions, he has faced backlash for his inconsistency.

Nevertheless, Xavi reportedly considers the Uruguayan a perfect fit for Lewandowski and is ready to make a move for the player.
