Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a big blow in their push for the top 4, after forward Timo Werner was ruled out for the remainder of matches this campaign due to a hamstring injury.
Defender Ben White will also be out of action for the remaining games this season as a result of a calf problem.
Werner and White sustained injuries in their North London derby loss to Arsenal on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
Ben Davies made 19 appearances, scoring 1 goal and providing no assist before his recent injury layoff.
The injury to Timo Werner will force him to miss out on a reunion with former club Chelsea, who Tottenham Hotspur play on Thursday, May 2, 2024.
Spurs are 7 points adrift of 4th-placed Aston Villa in the battle for Champions League qualification. The trip to Stamford Bridge is one of their two outstanding games, having played two matches less than Unai Emery’s side.
Their other game in hand is against defending champions Manchester City on May 14, 2024.
They also visit Anfield to play Liverpool on May 5, 2024, as the season draws closer to its end.
Tottenham Hotspur were already without Destiny Udogie for the remainder of the season, leaving Postecoglou without any recognized left-backs.
Emerson Royal is expected to be utilized in the opposite flank, with Ange Postecoglou saying he will have to sort out the headache.
Timo Werner joined the North London side on loan from RB Leipzig in January 2024 and he has been “Okay” since joining the club.
Ange Postecoglou On The Injury To Timo Werner And Ben Davies
Providing an update on the injury status of Werner and Ben Davies, Ange Postecoglou said: “Timo got a hamstring injury.”
“There’s two-and-a-half weeks left so he will miss the rest of the season and Ben Davies got a calf injury from the [Arsenal] game and he’ll miss the rest of the season as well.”
Timo Werner has made 14 appearances for Spurs, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists in all competitions.
When questioned on the future of Werner at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, manager Postecoglou said: “Yeah, that’s stuff for another day. I have a game tomorrow.”
Werner’s previous spell in England wasn’t quite ravishing, as he failed to produce the goods at Chelsea.
The 28-year-old joined the Blues on July 1, 2020, from RB Leipzig for a fee of €53 million.
Timo Werner was known for missing glorious chances, and oftentimes being caught offside even when he managed to put the ball in the back of the net.
Werner scored 23 goals and provided 17 assists in 89 appearances for the Stamford Bridge club.
He returned to RB Leipzig on August 9, 2022, for a fee of €20 million, and his first season at the club following his return was impressive.
Timo Werner netted 16 goals and provided 6 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.
However, he struggled during the early part of the 2023/24 season, making about 14 appearances, scoring just 2 goals and providing 1 assist.
