Manchester United have announced the sigining of English football expert Jason Wilcox as the club’s new technical director.
After the initial objections by Southampton in the wake of Man United’s interest, an agreement has been reached by the two clubs for the signing of the 53-year-old.
According to Daily Mail, Jason Wilcox will resume work as Manchester United technical director as early as Monday, April 22. Manchester United statement announcing the signing of Jason Wilcox reads;
‘Jason Wilcox has joined Manchester United as Technical Director with immediate effect. He will work with all technical areas of the football department to achieve the highest standards of performance.
Southampton also confirmed in a corresponding club statement the imminent departure of Jason Wilcox to Manchester United having reached an agreement with the club.
They, however, expressed their disappointment in having to lose the veteran football administrator so soon
“Southampton Football Club can today confirm that it has reluctantly agreed to allow Director of Football Jason Wilcox to join Manchester United, having reached an agreement with the Premier League side on an acceptable compensation fee.
‘‘Whilst the club is naturally disappointed that Jason’s stay at Southampton has only lasted nine months, it wishes him well for the future. ”The club will continue to work closely with Russell Martin and his back-room team to ensure they have all the support they require moving forward.’
Jason Wilcox served for 11 years at Manchester City, overseeing the grooming, coaching, and scouting for the club’s Academy stars and youth teams before joining Southampton in 2023.
He has been credited for the rise of Manchester City Academy products such as Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Oscar Bobb, and Rico Lewis. According to Daily Mail, he will be expected to resume work at United with effect from Monday, April 22 with all terms and agreement for his departure settled with Southampton.
