Despite Cole Palmer’s Double Against Burnley, Chelsea’s Woes Continue

Burnley smiled away from Stamford Bridge with a hearty draw against Mauricio Pochettino’s uninspiring Chelsea.

The Blues thought they had gone ahead in the 20th minute when Axel Disasi bundled the ball into the net from close range.

There was a VAR check following the goal to see if Mudryk was offside, additionally, they also scrutinized to see if the final touch by Disasi was off his arm.

Following the review, the goal was chalked off as the ball was deemed to have come off the arm of the Chelsea defender.

In the 35th minute, Marc Cucurella was booked for a reckless tackle on Lorenz Assignon, who was looking to break on an attack.

Five minutes later, Assignon was shown a second yellow, following a poor tackle in the box, bringing down Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Palmer put Chelsea ahead over Burnley via the spot

Cole Palmer stepped forward and converted the resultant penalty, sending the ball down the middle while Burnley goalie Muric dived to the left-hand side.

Meanwhile, Burnley boss Vincent Kompany was also sent off in the 43rd minute for excessively protesting at the referee’s decision.

In the 62nd minute, Noni Madueke also replaced Conor Gallagher for Chelsea, adding more bite to their attacking department.

Jay Rodriguez also entered the fray for Lyle Foster 8 minutes later, while Johann Berg Gudmundsson came on for Wilson Odobert.

Raheem Sterling also came on for Moises Caicedo in the 73rd minute, before Cole Palmer scored the second for Chelsea 5 minutes later.

Palmer smashed a breathtaking shot into the bottom-right corner to put Chelsea back in front, however, their joy was short-lived after Dara O’Shea headed the ball fabulously into the net.

Chelsea goalie Djordje Petrovic got his hand to the ball, but couldn’t stop it from going in.

Three minutes before the expiration of the clash, Mauricio Pochettino also introduced Alfie Gilchrist for Malo Gusto.

In the 2nd minute of additional time, Maxime Estève became the last man to get his name taken into the referee’s book, and he was booked for time-wasting.

How did the game involving Chelsea and Burnley end?

Both teams settled for a draw at the end of 90 minutes and added time, with the two clubs having different reactions to the result.

The Clarets were delighted that they fought hard to secure a draw despite going a man down.

Chelsea felt gutted not to have secured a victory over the basement boys, as their underwhelming display this season continues.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side sit 11th on the log, with 40 points from 28 matches, while Burnley occupy the 19th spot on the log with 18 points from 30 Premier League matches.
