After the European Nations League match which ended 1-0 in favor of England, Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood left England’s team ‘bubble’ to bring in Iceland 20-year-old Miss Universe contender Nadia Gunnarsdottir and her 19-year-old cousin Lara Clausen.

When it was proven that the players have broken the England team’s COVID-19 protocol, the two football stars were asked to leave the England camp ahead of the country’s match against Denmark today, September 8, 2020.

One of the girls that Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood sneaked into the England team’s hotel, Nadia Gunnarsdottir has revealed that she and Greenwood have been in contact weeks before England arrived in Iceland for their match.

Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood had to find a way to book a room for Nadia and her cousin, Lara Clausen, in the same Radisson Blu Saga Hotel where the rest of the team were camped.

The footage from the hotel’s CCTV showed the girls sneaking their ways into the hotel. Minutes later, the players left their official hotel rooms and joined the girls in their separate rooms.

Phil Foden who already had a son with his childhood sweetheart, Rebecca Cooke, when he was 18-year-old, went in with Lara Clausen while Greenwood went in with Nadia, the finalist of Iceland 2019 Miss Universe beauty pageant. They reportedly spent about 7 hours together on Sunday night to Monday morning and then sneaked out before the team’s breakfast.

“It is clear that Phil’s actions were totally inappropriate”, Manchester City said in a statement. “His behavior not only directly contravenes strict guidelines related to Covid-19 but also falls well below the standard expected of a Manchester City player and England international.”

While Manchester United said they were “liaising with the Football Association and are disappointed with the actions of Mason Greenwood”.

Apart from the fact that the youngsters were asked to leave the camp of the England national team on Monday, it is expected that they will be slammed with stiffer punishment by the English FA in the coming days.

The FA statement read: “Whilst in Iceland, both Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood spent time outside of our private team area, which was a breach of our Covid-19 rules.

“While they did not leave the team hotel, it was an unacceptable breach of our protocol. They have both apologized for their serious lack of judgment.

“The FA will be launching a full investigation into the circumstances leading up to this breach. We have spoken to the Football Association of Iceland to offer our apologies for this incident and to ensure them we are taking the appropriate steps.

“We have also assured the Danish Football Union that all other players and staff members have been isolated within our group throughout this period.

“Our immediate priority now is preparing the team for the match against Denmark tomorrow.”
