Brighton End Manchester United’s 31-Game Unbeaten Run At Old Trafford

Old Trafford went silent after former prodigy Danny Welbeck took Brighton and Hove Albion into the lead against Manchester United, with their first real attempt on goal.

Manchester United had several great chances in the first half, however, they couldn’t find a way to break the resolve of the Seagulls.

Let us share with you how the opening exchanges of the game went, before the goal scored by the ex-Red Devil. 

Tariq Lamptey was handed a yellow card in the 4th minute for a foul on Diogo Dalot near the touchline.

In the 6th minute, Manchester United had a great chance, as goalkeeper Jason Steele used his leg to deny Marcus Rashford at the near post.

Rashford’s shot lacked enough power and Steelers did enough to save his side from conceding.

14 minutes later, Danny Welbeck struck to give his side the lead, stunning many of the home supporters.

In the 24th minute, Jan Paul van Hecke picked up a yellow card, for partaking in some time-wasting alongside goalkeeper Jason Steele.

The Seagulls controlled the first half of action

Brighton were largely in control of the first half, but Manchester United had the more goal mouth chances.

Marcus Rashford ran into the area, leaving defender Van Hecke out of sought and back-tracking. Rashford’s shot was deflected onto the goalframe, following a block from Joel Veltman.

It appeared Rasmus Hojlund was set to open his goals bank for Manchester United, but following a review from VAR, the goal was chalked off.

Rashford had taken the ball over the byline on the left before setting up Rasmus Hojlund, who converted brilliantly, but the resultant goal was disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee.

In additional time of the first half, Marcus Rashford got another glorious chance, unfortunately, he couldn’t convert the opportunity, as his effort went wide of the right-hand post.

Bruno Fernandes was afterward handed a penalty in the 3rd minute of additional time in the first half, for a foul on Dahoud.

The encounter ended with Brighton in front after the first 45, and many expected Erik Ten Hag’s side to turn a new leaf in the second half.

Unfortunately, in the 51st minute, Pascal Gross doubled the Seagulls advantage, after Tariq Lamptey’s pass fell to his path.

In the 64th minute, Robert De Zerbi introduced Ansu Fati for Adam Lallana, while Joao Pedro came on for Danny Welbeck.

The Old Trafford club also made their own substitutions, with Erik Ten Hag introducing youngster Hannibal Mejbri for Casemiro, and Anthony Martial coming on for Rasmus Hojlund.

7 minutes later, Joao Pedro scored the killer goal for Brighton and Hove Albion, before Hannibal Mejbri scored the consolation for Manchester United in the 73rd minute.

In the 77th minute, Brighton made another set of substitutions, bringing on Billy Gilmour for Mahmoud Dahoud, while James Milner came on for Tariq Lamptey.

Erik Ten Hag also introduced Facundo Pellistri for Scott Mctominay, Aaron Wan-Bissaka came on for Lisandro Martinez, and Alejandro Garnacho came on for Reguilon.

Evan Ferguson was also introduced by Brighton in the 85th minute, replacing Simon Adingra
