Manchester United have responded to ongoing police investigations regarding allegations of assault made against Antony that he attacked his ex-girlfriend.

Antony is currently being investigated by the Greater Manchester Police due to allegations of domestic abuse leveled against him.

Whereas the Premier League club have publicly acknowledged and commented on the matter.

What happened?

Gabriela Cavallin, the former girlfriend of the Brazilian international, has made allegations that Antony headbutted and punched her in a hotel room on January 14.

The incident was reported to have occurred the day after a Premier League match against arch-rival Manchester City.

According to Cavallin’s statement, she said she suffered an injury to her head and damage to her breast implant.

Cavallin made her allegations during an interview with the Brazilian website UOL where she shared images of her alleged injuries and screenshots of WhatsApp messages between her and Antony.

The 23-year-old lady further mentioned that she sought treatment from an English doctor following the incident that allegedly took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Manchester in January.

Cavallin submitted separate reports to the Great Manchester Police and the Sao Paulo Civil Police, further alleging that Antony threw a glass cup at her, resulting in her fingers being cut.

Antony refutes Cavallin’s claims

Antony strongly maintains that he has been unjustly accused and that his family has endured the consequences of these allegations without speaking out.

He expressed that he has never encountered a situation like this before and believes that justice will ultimately prevail once the case is resolved.

Antony said on social media: “I can calmly state that the accusations are false and that the evidence already produced and the other evidence that will be produced demonstrate that I am innocent of the accusations made.”

Manchester United’s official statement

Manchester United had remained silent following the accusations of domestic violence made by Gabriela Cavallin against Antony in June.

It should also be noted that United refrained from making any official statements even after Cavallin provided additional details regarding the player’s alleged actions.

These allegations include threats of throwing her out of a moving vehicle, causing injury to her finger, and punching her breast implant.

However, Manchester United have broken silence on the domestic violence allegations.

The club expressed their commitment to addressing the allegations made against winger Antony, emphasizing that they are taking them very seriously.

In an official statement today, Wednesday, September 6, The Red Devils wrote: “Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting inquiries.”

“Pending further information, the club will be making no further comments. As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact these allegations and subsequent reporting will have on survivors of abuse.”

What’s next?

Brazil have decided to exclude Antony from their upcoming matches due to the gravity of the allegations.

However, Manchester United kept playing him, despite the accusations.

As it stands, it’s believed that United will deny Antony playing time until he is proven not guilty of the allegations.
