Brazil midfielder Fred has sent a special farewell message to Manchester United following the confirmation of his departure from Old Trafford.
Manchester United disclosed on Friday, August 11, 2023, that a deal has been agreed in principle for the transfer of Fred to Fenerbahce.
The 30-year-old is closing in on a move to the Turkish giants for a reported fee of €15 million, subject to a medical, agreement of personal terms and “receiving international clearance to process the move”.
Fred made 213 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 14 goals and providing 19 assists in all competitions.
The midfielder joined the Red Devils on July 1, 2018, from Shakhtar Donetsk, for a fee of €59 million.
Fred’s time at Old Trafford will be remembered for his dedication and unrelenting spirit, despite receiving loads of criticism from time to time.
His career at Old Trafford started on a shaky note, however, he was able to stake a reasonable claim for a starting shirt years later.

In his farewell message to Manchester United, Fred wrote: “Thanks for everything, Manchester United Football Club. Today ends one of the most beautiful stages of my career.
“I lived the dream of wearing the shirt of one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“Going through ups and downs, I leave with the conviction that I always gave my best during all training sessions and games.
The 30-year-old also sent his appreciation to Manchester United for the opportunity given to him.
“It was five years of a true dream for me and my family. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity.
“Forever a Red! ❤️”
Free made 56 appearances for the Red Devils last term, scoring 6 goals and providing 6 assists across all competitions.
He becomes the latest player to exit Manchester United, amid the ongoing exodus of players from the club.
Anthony Elanga, Alex Telles, Zidane Iqbal, David de Gea, Axel Tuanzebe, and Phil Jones are players that have left the club this summer.
Erik Ten Hag has continued in his rebuild of Manchester United and as such, some players that are deemed surplus to requirements are being sold.
Last summer, the Old Trafford club also witnessed the departure of several high-profile names.
Andreas Pereira, Tahith Chong, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Edinson Cavani, and Juan Mata all exited Manchester United last summer.

Meanwhile, Fred was included in the UEFA Europa League Squad of 2019/20 due to his exploits.

The former Internacional midfielder has made 32 appearances for Brazil, scoring no goal and providing 3 assists.
