Julio Baptista, a former Gunners player reckons that the Brazil star needs a “new atmosphere” after becoming “comfortable” at PSG.

Neymar, who is 31 years old, is one of the players that PSG are looking to sell this summer to raise funds.

Baptista believes that Arteta’s Arsenal should make a move for the Brazilian as he is looking like the missing piece in Arteta’s team.

Speaking in an interview with GOAL, he said: “I think Neymar is comfortable at PSG, but maybe the best move for him is to create a new atmosphere at a new club – maybe a club that supports him and gives him all the confidence that he needs. He doesn’t have that at PSG.”

“The fans don’t like him a lot and maybe it is time to move on and try something different.”

“Why not? Arsenal is one of the best clubs in Europe. We know that the last eight or so years, Arsenal have not produced their best or been as competitive.”

“But now, with Arteta, Arsenal have something different. They have started to construct something powerful. Why not? Maybe this could be the key.”

“In Brazil we say that you have the house, you have everything, and you just need the key to open it.”

“Maybe Neymar is the key to open and complete everything at Arsenal. He is an incredible player.”

If Neymar decides to join Arsenal, he will be greeted with familiar faces such as Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes, who he knows from the Brazil national team.

Neymar will offer manager Mikel Arteta another attacking option across the frontline as they look to build on last season’s failure.

Aside from Arsenal, the Brazilian has also been linked with a move to Chelsea and Saudi Arabia as well as a return to Barcelona this summer.

Recent reports have it that Neymar could earn £172m a year if he made the switch to Saudi, with Al-Hilal rumoured to be plotting a £38m bid for the Brazilian.

PSG on the other hand are looking to buy the idea of selling the attacker due to his season wages of £22m.

Selling Neymar to the highest bidder – which might not be Arsenal – would help the French club ease their fears over Financial Fair Play regulations.

The move will also see the reduction in tensions from the PSG fanbase as his house – along with that of Messi who has left PSG for MLS’ Inter Miami – was targeted by ultras in May 2023.

Neymar

Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, known as Neymar Júnior or as just Neymar, is a Brazilian footballer who was born on 5 February 1992 and plays as a forward for Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team.

He is a prolific goalscorer and renowned playmaker. He is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world as well as one of the greatest Brazilian footballers of all time.

Neymar has scored at least 100 goals for three different clubs, making him one of four players in the world to have reached such accomplishment.

He moved to PSG in 2017 in a move worth €222 million, making him the most expensive player in football history.

Arsenal In The Pre-season

The Gunners narrowly missed out on the Premier League title last season but made a huge statement by signing Declan Rice from West Ham for £105m.

Arsenal have also shown inconsistency in Pre-season so far. They lost to United 2-0 but Mikel Arterta’s side fired back by edging out Barcelona in a 5-3 thriller.

The inclusion of Leandro Trossard last season showed improvements and they went on to sign Kai Havertz from Chelsea this summer.

After spending huge, Arteta must decide who needs to go before the transfer window closes as the Gunners look to trim their squad.

Other subsequent big-money signings seem unlikely, but more defensive depth seems to be needed at Arsenal ahead of next season. .
