After crashing out to Sevilla yesterday, it looks as if there could be more problems at Manchester United as Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof were involved in a spat on the pitch yesterday. The incident came up in the aftermath of Sevilla’s second goal through Luuk de Jong with less than ten minutes to go.
As well as Lindelof who failed to stop Navas’ assist, Wan Bissaka was also culpable in the concession of the goal which proved to be the winner. The frustration was clear for all to see. Indeed, Lindelof and Bruno Fernandes were involved in a heated exchange after the goal.
Both players were clearly enraged. The camera might have only shown the back of Fernandes but Lindelof clearly shouted at his teammate in anger. The centre-back’s words have been translated and it’s alleged that he said ‘vai tomar no cu filho da puta’, which means ‘go f*** yourself, son of a b**
Thankfully for everyone, Bruno Fernandes was quick to play down the whole incident and regards it as a heat of the moment circumstance. Speaking after the game, Bruno told BT Sport:
“I think it is normal. When you take a goal in the last 10 minutes everyone was mad. It is not about about me and Victor, it is about everyone. What happens between me and Victor doesn’t matter, in football it happens. There will be many more times this happens with other teams. We need to see the mistakes everyone did and and look forward to improving in the next games.”
Earlier in the game, Fernandes had put his team in front after a penalty was awarded to the Red Devils thanks to Diego Carlos’ rash tackle on Marcus Rashford. That was United’s 22nd spot-kick in all competitions this season and was tucked away emphatically by the Portuguese midfield maestro.
However, the goal proved inconsequential in the end as Sevilla fought back to triumph 2-1 and will now face one of Inter Milan or Shakhtar Donetsk in this year’s final.
