Willan is set to join Arsenal

Details of the financial benefit attached to Chelsea’s former player, Willian planned to move to Arsenal have been unveiled.

It was gathered that the Brazilian could end up earning eye-watering £220,000-a-week at the Emirate Stadium if everything goes according to plan.

  • Arsenal paid $10.4 million in indirect fee if he was to come in at 100,000 k weekly if he signs for a two-year deal, but a new report shows that he signed a 3 years deal.

So, what are the things that will make Willian smile to the bank with £35m at Arsenal in three years?

Willan is set to join Arsenal

Willian, who will join Arsenal this weekend following his exit from Chelsea this week had been happy to stay at Stamford Bridge but the Blues were unwilling to hand him the three-year deal he craved.

With Arsenal willing to do so, he is going to earn a basic salary of around £100,000-a-week, which is a dip on the £120,000-a-week he earned in west London. But what makes it likely to be double of his salary is the signing-on fees because he is a free agent.

Taking the figure into account alongside other ‘loyalty’ bonuses and appearance fees, Willian will earn around £220,000-a-week.

Smart move by Willian?

Could this be termed a smart one by the Brazilian?

Willian has not been getting the starting shirt in Chelsea alongside Roma-bound Pedro. With his playing time limited, he would have got nowhere near that money at Chelsea.

This means that if he sees out the three year deal at the North London club, it would be a good one for him at his age, as he would automatically become the second-highest earner at the club behind Mesut Ozil.

However, this deal raises question marks over Arsenal’s recent decision to make 55 employees redundant over the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the measures taken at the club, some players took a pay off. Mesut Ozil had recently defended his refusal to pay cut, saying he is going to honour the remaining part of his contract with the club.

Since Arsenal is trying to balance the book, this kind of deal could bring about criticisms of the club transaction concerning Willian.

Willian has decided on his future

What’s more interesting is that the 32-year-old’s deal will include the option of a fourth year, meaning he could earn more.

According to reports, Mikel Arteta is planning to offload a number of fringe players following Willian’s arrival in a bid to balance the books. This is because he has been reportedly told that he must sell before he can bring in new reinforcement.

Since Ozil has said he is not leaving, Matteo Guendouzi, Sead Kolasinac, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Callum Chambers, and Rob Holding have been put up for sale.

If they succeeded is shipping out the aforementioned players, Gunners could reconsider their indifference at paying the £45m release clause in Thomas Partey’s contract at Atletico Madrid.

There is also a report that the Gunners had decided against doing so, but prefers to offer the likes of Guendouzi in exchange instead.

With their summer budget being dependent upon the number of players they can sale, we will see what will happen at the North London club during the transfer window.
