The current captain of Super Eagles of Nigeria Ahmed Musa has lamented that he shouldn’t have left CSKA Moscow for Premier League side Leicester City in 2016. He said the club told him that their then top striker Riyad Mahrez was leaving the club when they signed him.

Unfortunately for the 27-year-old Nigerian striker, the Algerian striker failed to move during the 2016-2017 season. Musa had to play a second fiddle to him until he ran out of patients and then returned to CSKA Moscow on loan.

Mahrez finally left Leicester City to join Manchester City in 2018, then, it was too late for Musa to prove himself at the club. The Nigerian striker had to leave the Premier League to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr in the same year Mahrez left Leicester. He is expected to remain in Saudi Arabian until 2022.

Ahmed Musa was having the best time of his football career in Moscow before he abandoned the smooth run he was enjoying in Russia to migrate to the Premier League. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out as fine as it did in Russia Premier League where he won three league titles, Russia cup and Russia Super cup. He scored 41 goals in 125 appearances for CSKA Moscow before he left for Leicester.

“Before they signed me at Leicester City, they told me Riyad Mahrez was leaving. If I knew that Mahrez is going to stay, I will not join Leicester, I would have stayed at CSKA Moscow,” Musa via Instagram live.

“When I came, we had a lot of wingers at Leicester City, yet, I still got the chance to play.

“Claudio Ranieri always played me behind Jamie Vardy sometimes I play from the right or left-wing. But after they sacked Craig Shakespeare I don’t know what happened anymore.”

Ahmed Musa also clarified the speculations linking him with a move from Al Nassr to some mainstream clubs in Europe. He said he intends to see through his contract in Saudi Arabia.

“Those are rumours linking me away from the club. I love playing for my team [Al Nassr] and I will love to finish my contract with the club,” he said.

Meanwhile, Musa said before he became a superstar, he used to play as a goalkeeper in primary school. He said he was so good at the role that he was made the games prefect

“When I was in a primary school in Jos, I was a goalkeeper. I started as a goalkeeper, I don’t even know what brought me to start playing as an outfield player,” he said.

“Yes, I enjoyed the role. In primary school, I was the games prefect and I was one of the best goalkeepers in primary school”.
