Real Madrid seeks proper investigation on the penalty controversies during the Clasico draw

Real Madrid points out the injustice of multiple unsuccessful penalties following their goalless Clasico tie against Barcelona on Wednesday.

Raphael Varane had two declined strong appeals in the first half of the La Liga clash. The first was the high challenge from Barca defender Clement Lenglet at Camp Nou following a free-kick midweek.

Further, Ivan Rakitic had held the defender in the seconds before the initial incident. Then pulls Varane’s shirt when competing for a corner, moments later.

Real Madrid did not earn their penalty appeals in the El Clasico tie
The referee in charge did not bother to check the VAR

Referee Alejandro Jose Hernandez Hernandez in-charge, without proper VAR check, allows continuing the play which Madrid now calls for legal scrutiny.

Sergio Ramos describes the period as “pretty clear” penalties and Madrid seeks attention to the two controversial moments.

The statement Ramos said on their website: ”The Frenchman could have had two penalties in the first half but Hernandez Hernandez did not give either of them.

“On minute 17, [Varane] went to head a corner before Lenglet stood on his thigh muscle in the area, but neither the referee nor VAR [where (Ricardo) de Burgos Bengoetxea was in charge] deemed it a penalty.

“Two minutes later and following another corner, the central defender had his shirt pulled by Ivan Rakitic, which saw him end up on the ground in the penalty area.

“However, once again, neither the referee or the VAR system decided to award the penalty.”

Meanwhile, both sides did not have a winner as the match broke off without netting. Disallowing the goal from Los Blancos winger Gareth Bale put the game to bed goalless.

Madrid winger Gareth Bale had a goal disallowed for an offside against Ferland Mendy after half-time as both sides failed to muster a winner.

The draw left them level on points in LaLiga but places the Catalans at the top on goal difference. Hence, with 36 points each, five points clear of third-place Sevilla.
