Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was attacked by armed gangs equipped with irons bars at his residence in the early hours of Monday as confirmed by Barcelona.
During the burglary, Aubameyang and his wife were handcuffed and tied up for an extended period, according to club sources, but neither suffered serious injuries.
The thieves broke into Aubameyang’s home in Castelldefels, just outside of Barcelona, where he lives with his wife and two children, in the early hours of Monday morning, August 29, 2022.
The house is about 200 meters away from the homes of ex-Barcelona stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, who both use private security firms to protect their properties.
Aubameyang, 33, had just returned home from Barcelona’s 4-0 victory over Real Valladolid on Sunday, in which he was an unused substitute.
Authorities said at least four masked raiders broke into the player’s home and fled in a car.
According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, Aubameyang was hit and forced to open a safe where the couple kept their jewelry.
Despite the incident, the 33-year-old former Arsenal player and his wife are doing well, according to FC Barcelona.
Aubameyang, a Gabonese international, joined Barcelona in January after spending time with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and Arsenal.
According to police sources, the gang has yet to be apprehended.
Recently, Aubameyang’s teammate Robert Lewandowski had his €70,000 watch stolen from his car as he arrived for training at Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva base.
